BELLEFONTE -- The search for Bellefonte Area School District's newest superintendent is underway.
Current Superintendent, Tammie Burnaford, announced in October in a letter to district families that she would not be seeking an extension of her current contract which expires on June 20, 2024.
"A new superintendent should get the chance to lead this incredible district and community," Burnaford wrote to families in October.
On Tuesday, the district's board of directors announced its search for Burnaford's replacement.
During its meeting on Nov. 2, the board approved a contract with DiRocco Education Consulting, LLC: Keystone Superintendent Search Service to conduct the search.
DiRocco Consulting consists of consultants Mark D. DiRocco and Connie R. Kindler.
Kindler sent out a press release regarding the firm's role in the hiring process -- which includes receiving input from the district's staff and community.
"An initial step in the search process is the securing of input from the district's staff and community to assist the school board's identification of its next superintendent," Kindler said. "The board of directors is inviting community residents' input via a simple survey that asks participants to identify the district's strengths and challenges, and the leadership characteristics important for the next superintendent."
The survey will be available until Jan. 5, 2024 on the district's website -- www.basd.net.

"Your interest in and support of the School Board's highly important task of electing the next superintendent of the Bellefonte Area School District is appreciated," Kindler said.
DiRocco Consulting recently completed a search for the Keystone Central School District in Clinton County, which ended in November with its board hiring Dr. Francis Redmon.
