KC board appoints Redmon as next superintendent

MILL HALL -- The Keystone Central School District Board of Directors have appointed Dr. Francis Redmon as the district's next superintendent.
Redmon's appointment was unanimously approved by the board during a special meeting on Thursday night.
The district's current superintendent, Dr. Jacquelyn Martin, will finish her five-year contract on Jan. 31, 2024. Martin, who has pledged to support Redmon's transition, will hand over her duties on Feb. 1, 2024.
Prior to the vote, the board heard from Mark DiRocco and Connie Kindler of DiRocco Education -- the firm charged with the superintendent search.
DiRocco gave a brief overview of the process which included surveying the community, district staff and parents along with continued involvement of the board and a variety of community stakeholders.
In a release announcing Redmon's potential appointment, Martin praised the decision.
"Dr. Redmon is going to be a great asset to the school district and community. His skill set and experience with future-focused school systems make him the perfect leader to continue the work established in the district's comprehensive plan," Martin previously said.
According to Redmon's contract, which is set to expire in 2028, his salary is set at $155,000 a year, prorated.
The contract further notes, Redmon will receive a set percentage raise each year.
"(Redmon) shall receive a minimum increase added to his base salary of three percent (3%) of his then-current base salary. Each increase shall be added to and become part of his annual base salary," the contract states. "The Board may provide additional increases to the\Superintendent's salary in its discretion throughout the life of this Contract."
Redmon has served as superintendent at other school's in the United States including the Quilcene School District in Washington and the Ashgabat International School in Turkmenistan.
He also brings experience as a building administrator and a middle and high school science and math teacher. He is a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school.
Following board approval, Redmon thanked the board along with DiRocco and Kindler for choosing him to take on the role.
"I'm really looking forward to our work together," Redmon said, noting he felt the position was a good fit for himself and the district.
"A good fit works in both directions. I need to fit with you and you need to fit with me and I think everything I've seen, everything I've heard and all the conversations we've had -- I think we have a really good fit," he said. "I think together we're going to thrive and continue the great work that, Dr. Martin, you and your team have start. You've Teed up a great ball for me and I'm really looking forward to taking it and going."
Redmon said he is looking forward to moving into the community with his wife Sharon and getting to know members of the board, administration, staff and the community.
"Thank you very much for the opportunity, I'm honored to be able to serve with you, our community and our kids," he said.
