WOOLRICH -- Despite the slight chill, nearly 300 people turned out for Pine Creek Township Recreation Committee's first-ever Woolrich Wonderland tree lighting event at Woolrich Park.
"For it being the first time, it seemed well attended," Recreation Committee President Erin Winslow said.
The tree lighting took place on Saturday night and featured crafts, refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus.
"Our craft opportunity was a pinecone ornament. We used pinecones, peanut butter and bird seed," Winslow said. "Once individuals completed their ornament, they were able to add it to the tree."
Winslow noted 2023 Clinton County Fair Queen, Christina Smith, was onhand to assist others with the craft.
Hot chocolate, cookies, brownies and rice crispy treats were available for everyone to enjoy, all donated by the recreation committee, Weis Markets and the Woolrich Community Church.
Santa Claus arrived in style in style in Woolrich Volunteer Fire Company's fire truck and soon began visiting with little boys and girls at his cabin. And, thanks to the Pine Creek Township Police Department, each child was given a present.
"The police officers were there on behalf of Operation Christmas," Winslow said. "They provided all of the gifts that Santa handed out as well as to let people know more about Operation Christmas."
Woolrich Wonderland had a host of sponsors, of which the recreation committee was central. Other sponsors included the police department, Woolrich Community Church, Woolrich Volunteer Fire Company, Woolrich Employee Beneficial Association, Before and After Counseling LLC, J.N. Blesh Surveying LLC, and Saar's Tree Service LLC.
"Saar's provided the tree for the park as well as in Santa's cabin," Winslow noted. "I would just add a special thank you to everyone that came out to the Woolrich Wonderland and we will see you next year."
Members of the Pine Creek Township Recreation Committee are: Chair Erin Winslow; Vice Chair Kellan Krape; Secretary/Treasurer Rebecca Dunlap; and voting members Ken Packard, Amy Friedman, Mike Saar, Taryn Saar, Heather Fowler and Tim Fowler.
The committee typically meets the last Sunday of every month at 6 p.m. at Woolrich Community Church. Their next meeting is Sunday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. at the church. Anyone is welcome to attend or be considered for the board.
