MILL HALL -- Plans for a Wawa were pushed ahead with conditional approval of land development plans.
Bald Eagle Township Supervisors voted to approve the project's land development plans, conditionally, before they proceed with their permits and agreements.
Representatives from Wawa and the project's engineer, Judd Dayton, attended Monday's supervisor meeting for the update on the project. Dayton detailed to supervisors the land development plans.
The next step will be for the proper agreements and permits. This could take about a year and an added six or so months until completion, according to township solicitor, Frank Miceli.
"We are going to have a developers agreement, a stormwater agreement, they (Wawa) have to get their various permits from PennDOT, to satisfy the sewage authority," he said.
The plans for the Wawa will include raising the site in order to remove the zone from the flood plain. They will then have to ask for a map amendment once that's finished, according to Miceli. This would not be allowed through FEMA for over two years.
However, if the plans are submitted in a timely manner, they can get a variance through the zoning/hearing board, he said.
"What we came up with was that they'll submit that application in a timely manner but if it is not received within a year, they should proceed to ask the zoning/hearing board for a variance of that provision. You (supervisors) don't have the authority to grant that provision, that has to come from the zoning/hearing board," he explained.
Miceli added if the project is close to finishing in a year, Wawa representatives will be allowed another six or so months to complete.
"We (Bald Eagle Township) just don't want to leave it open ended," Miceli said.
He recommended the supervisors vote to conditionally approve the land development plan as they are to proceed with the project.
In other business, the township received a letter of interest for a vacant auditor position. Charles Peters was approved by supervisors to fill the auditor spot.
This was the first meeting with Stephen Tasselli as chairman. Kenny McGhee, Jr. is the new vice-chairman. Shawn Adrian will continue as supervisor. The positions were voted during their Jan. 2 reorganizational meeting.
During the reorganizational meeting, the regular supervisor meeting times were voted to now be held at 5 p.m. every third Monday instead of 6 p.m., previously.
