LOCK HAVEN -- Denise Maris, a resident of Clinton County, has announced her bid for State Representative for the 76th District.

This is the second time Maris will be throwing her hat in the ring for the position after previously running on the Democratic ticket in 2022 against incumbent Republican Stephanie Borowicz.

Maris made the announcement during a campaign event at Avenue 209 Coffee House on Friday afternoon.

During the event, Maris touched on various aspects of her campaign and the reasons why she's running for the position.

Maris's speech included a variety of issues the 76th District, and the state, faces including unfair treatment of veterans; the opioid crisis; struggles amongst the working class and small businesses; a declining workforce; and, in her opinion, a representative who isn't focused on the local community.

"I have my eyes solely on Harrisburg, so I can make them listen to us and our needs," Maris said.

Maris acknowledged the divisiveness the United States has been dealing with for many years.

"I understand we are at a time in which our country is heavily divided. It can seem like we have nothing in common with our neighbors, friends, and family who tend to think differently from us. But at the end of the day, we want a lot of the same things," Maris said.

"We want the people close to us to be safe, successful, and satisfied. And we want to continue to have our rights and freedoms that we have graciously been afforded by our country and our state, not have them pried away from us by our governments," she continued.

Maris noted she wants to work towards bipartisanship within the role if elected.

"I want to work with representatives on both sides of the aisle to do my best to make sure I can bring you these things and stop your freedoms from being taken away," she said.

She further stated her intentions to vote for "what is best for us and our district, not simply what my party thinks is right."

"And I will focus my time here and on improving what I can do for you, not dreaming about holding a higher office," she continued.

Maris said, if elected to the position, she intends to hold meetings at Avenue 209 on Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. These meetings will begin during her campaign, she noted.

"If anyone has any questions for me or any concerns you think I should address on the trail or when I'm in office, you can meet me on Thursdays... that'll be me right here at Avenue 209, face-to-face, not someone on my staff," she said.
