PASSHE, faculty union agree ‘in principle’ to new contract

The Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) and the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) have reached an agreement in principle for a new faculty contract that also impacts Commonwealth University Lock Haven.

Legal counsel for APSCUF and PASSHE are finalizing language, the two sides announced Friday in a brief prepared statement.

After the language is completed, the tentative agreement will be available for APSCUF members, and the ratification process will begin, they said.

Contract details will be released after the ratification and approval process is complete and before the Board of Governors takes action.

The most recent contract expired June 30, 2023, and remains in place until a new collective bargaining agreement is ratified.

APSCUF represents about 5,500 faculty and coaches at State System universities that, besides Lock Haven, include Bloomsburg, Mansfield, East Stroudsburg, Indiana, Kutztown, Millersville, California, Clarion and Edinboro, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester.

The State System annually confers more than 20,000 degrees and has more than 800,000 living alumni, most of whom live in Pennsylvania.
