MH Council OKs Eagle Project

MILL HALL -- A local scout attended the most recent Mill Hall Borough Council meeting to discuss his Eagle project.
James Turner, a freshman at Central Mountain High School, is one of eight scout members in Troop 54 in Beech Creek/Blanchard. He's been in the scouts since he was six years old, and has finally reached the age in which he can earn his Eagle Rank.
He requested council's approval for his four-phase project plan that includes building a park bench, cutting out and welding steel soldier silhouettes, fundraising and excavating a brick pathway and then adding any finishing touches that might be needed.
"I am asking for your approval to add a bench, pathway, solar lights and a few steel silhouettes of soldiers along with some flowers to the World War II memorial that is located on Pennsylvania Avenue in Mill Hall. When my parents owned a rental close to the memorial we noticed that the memorial could use an upgrade. I would help my Dad mow around the memorial. It was then that I decided what to do for my Eagle Project," said Turner.
According to his father and Scout Master, Dave Turner, the project is still pending approval from the scout council.
Turner's hopes are that the approvals he needs come in quickly, and he can get started. He hopes to have the project completed by summer 2024.
Council approved the project later in the agenda that night with a unanimous vote.
"I wish that young man all the best," said Councilman Derek Berry.

-- Council considered approval for their annual tire drop-off for Mill Hall Borough residents. It is planned for Thursday, May 16 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday, May 17, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tires can be dropped off by residents only at the borough building.
-- Council considered approval for the Iron Man Competition on June 30, 2024. Athletes will complete a race beginning with a 1.2-mile swim in Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir at Bald Eagle State Park, a 56-mile bike ride through Centre and Clinton counties and finishing with a 13.1-mile run on the campus of Penn State University with the finish line inside Beaver Stadium.
