BELLEFONTE -- Centre County Government awarded construction contracts for its renovation of the former Centre Crest Human Services building.
The county hasn't operated a nursing home since 2013.
The building previously housed independently operated Centre Cares -- a non-profit nursing facility -- before it moved to a new facility in College Township in 2018.
The former Centre Crest nursing home building will be renovated into offices for County human service agencies, the County election department, a new Bellefonte Senior Center and many other uses, according to a release from Centre County Government.
"The commissioners would like to thank our architect, MG Architects, our construction management firm, Massaro, and all the companies that bid on the project. The county is pleased that, as a group, the winning bids came in slightly under the estimates," said Centre County Commissioner Chair Mark Higgins.
All the contractors below are headquartered in, or have regional offices located in Pennsylvania.
The four prime contractors are:
-- General Trades: G.M. McCrossin, Inc., for $13,097,410.
-- HVAC: Ainsworth-Enginuity, for $6,449,000.
-- Plumbing: Ainsworth-Enginuity, for $2,437,000.
-- Electrical: Hallstrom-Clark Electric, for $4,451,500.
Centre County Government has fulfilled the requirements for construction to commence, the release stated. Construction is expected to begin soon.
County staff are currently scheduled to move into the Human Services building as soon as July 1, 2025.
