BELLEFONTE -- Since 2015, the Historic Bellefonte Hometown Hero Committee has been honoring hundreds of local heroes by placing banners on display throughout downtown Bellefonte.
Representatives for the committee, Brian Querry and Debra Burger, attended a recent Centre County Commissioners meeting to discuss the banners and what they mean to the county.
Burger began by thanking the commissioners for allowing them to attend the meeting and speak about the program.
"We are proud to announce the fifth round of the Bellefonte Hometown Hero Banners. We are so happy to say that over the past four rounds we have honored 338 heroes. For anyone wishing to honor a hero, the applications are available... Inflation has not hit us, they are still $200 for the banners," said Burger.
Once purchased, the banners will be displayed for two years. There is no longer a renewal option -- if you wish to continue honoring your hero after two years you will be required to purchase a new banner.
The banners that are currently on display will be taken down this fall and returned to the sponsors.
To purchase a banner, you must fill out the 2024 application. Some of the questions include the hero's name, the era of service, a message for the banner and a photo release statement.
The cost of the banner is $200 and can be paid either by check or cash to be dropped off at the Bellefonte Train Station or mailed to the train station at 320 W. High Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823.

The banners will be unveiled on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
