MILL HALL -- Mill Hall Borough recently advertised and held an emergency meeting regarding the hiring of a new borough secretary.
The meeting began with the unanimous vote to hire Amy Yost to temporarily fill the vacancy.
Yost has accepted the temporary position with plans to start in the following week.
She has prior experience working as a municipal secretary, and availability in the morning to help at the office.
A pay rate of $20/hr with around a 20-hour schedule was approved for this temporary position.
Council then unanimously voted to advertise the full job description in hopes of finding a long-term employee.
The secretary/treasurer for the borough is responsible for the maintenance of Borough records, transacting borough business properly, attending to the problems and questions and bringing them to the borough's attention when necessary. The secretary/treasurer is expected to work independently, and make decisions in accordance with established rules and policies and at the direction of council.
A few preferred skills include:
-- Knowledge of QuickBooks accounting program for municipal government
-- Ability to learn and apply a variety of laws, ordinances, rules, requirements and procedures applicable to borough business
-- Skill in use of computers, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs
-- Ability to perform mathematical computations necessary to keep fiscal records
-- Ability to work effectively with borough and other government officials as well as business associates and the public.
