Areas organizations hold Memorial Day services, parades
The following ceremonies and parades are scheduled in honor of Memorial Day throughout the weekend:
TODAY
— Beech Creek American Legion Memorial Festival, 5-9 p.m., at Legion Park. Vendors, cake wheel, dunk tank, live music and more. Proceeds benefit the Clinton/Centre Baseball Hall of Fame. Call the Kline’s at 570-660-0491 or Bill at 570-660-2568 for vendor space or more info.
— Howard Area Lions annual Foster Joseph Sayers Memorial Service, 6 p.m., at the Sayers Memorial site, Sayers Dam, rural Howard. Foster Joseph Sayers, III, will be one of several guest speakers during the evening. Bring lawn chairs for more comfortable seating.
SATURDAY, MAY 25
— Bellefonte VFW Post 1600 will be at the Pa. Military Museum in Boalsburg for Soldiers’ Hands at 9:30 a.m.

SUNDAY, MAY 26
— Bellefonte VFW Post 1600 will be participating in Memorial Services at the following cemeteries:
Meyers Cemetery at 1 p.m.
Jewish Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
Zion Cemetery at 2 p.m.
Hublersburg Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
Snydertown Cemetery at 2:45 p.m.
Jacksonville Cemetery at 4 p.m.
Lutheran Church in Pleasant Gap at 6 p.m.
— Memorial Services in Nippenose Valley will be held at Limestone Cemetery along route 880 near Rauchtown at 1:30 p.m. and the speaker will be Lisa Harbaugh.
– Everyone’s invited to bring a lawn chair to Triangle Park in downtown Lock Haven, Sunday at 11:00 noon for a program among the 158 Flags of Honor. A Company 337th Engineer Battalion of the Pennsylvania National Guard will provide a Color Guard and present the folding of the flag. Participants will also include soloist Kimberly Vance, A Company 337th Engineer Battalion of the Pennsylvania National Guard, Rotary District Governor Herb Smith, Rotary Area Governor Diahann Claghorn, and James L. Franklin, Jr. Flags of Honor is a project of the Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven, with lots of support from individual sponsors and businesses. Proceeds benefit scholarships and local non-profits.
MONDAY, MAY 27
— Bellefonte VFW Post 1600 will conduct memorial services at the following cemeteries:
9:45 a.m. at the Miller/Quaker Cemetery
10 a.m. at the Catholic Cemetery, and immediately following at Union Cemetery.
11 a.m. at Talleyrand Park in Bellefonte
— Milesburg American Legion Mumper-Shawley Post 893 will conduct memorial services at the following cemeteries:
Advent Cemetery Memorial Services, 9 a.m., followed by Music at the Advent from 10 a.m. to noon. Advent Historical Museum will be open, refreshments served, located at 1303 Moose Run Road, Bellefonte.
Trcziyulny Cemetery at 10 a.m.
New Union Cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
Oak Ridge Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
— Eagle Cemetery Memorial Services, 1 p.m with guest speaker Steve Kowatch. Eagle Cemetery is located near the Curtin Mansion, rural Howard. Call Sam at 814-355-2448 for info.
Schenck’s Cemetery Memorial Services, 2 p.m., Paul Takac will be guest speaker.
Milesburg Community Cemetery at 2:45 p.m.
Swamp Poodle Cemetery at 3:15 p.m.
MONDAY, MAY 27
Memorial Day Parades
— Beech Creek American Legion Post 623 Memorial Parade at 10 a.m. beginning at the Liberty Baptist Church in Blanchard and ending at the Legion. Line-up is at 9 a.m. along Ridge Crest Drive behind the Blanchard ball fields. Parade participants get free hot dogs and drink afterward at the Legion picnic grounds. 570-660-2568 for parade info.
— Salladasburg Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony begins at 11 a.m. with line-up on Dochter Street before 10:45 a.m. Immediately following the parade there will be a ceremony to honor our local veterans in the Salladasburg United Methodist Church parking lot with Taps and a 21-gun salute by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard.
