City announces partnerships for mural projects, special events in October

PHOTOS PROVIDED The City of Lock Haven recently announced a partnership with various local organizations and Dripped on the Road. Five of DOTR’s artists, pictured above, will come to the city to create four new murals.
LOCK HAVEN — Four new murals are coming to Lock Haven supported by funding from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Clinton County Visitors Bureau and Tourism Agency and the City of Lock Haven.
The initiative will bring five artists with Dripped on the Road to the city to showcase the arts, connect with the community and paint four unique murals. The artists will begin painting on Oct. 1 with the final murals being completed on Oct. 15.
Events and opportunities to connect with the artists will be scattered in between.
Dripped on the Road (DOTR) is a traveling artist residency program dedicated to fostering a unique creative environment for its resident artists while enhancing the visual atmosphere of communities through public art.
The directors of DOTR, Denton Burrows and Jonathan Neville, are bringing together three artists from around the United States to paint murals in the city and connect with the community through various events.
Humble, Zach Curtis, and Danielle Mastrion are the talented artists joining DOTR for their eighth “on the road” program. The program will be documented, and a short video will be created to showcase their time in Lock Haven.
The artists will be painting four walls in the Lock Haven community and bringing their unique skill set to life in two weeks!
The walls will be located at Haven Wash Station, 377 E. Main St.; M&J Supply, 309 E. Main St.; Roxy Theatre, 308 E. Main St.; and the Annie Halenbake Ross Library, 232 W. Main St.
The final designs will be kept a secret until the final mural tour.
The City of Lock Haven would like to thank these property owners for being involved in this initiative, supporting the arts and providing their wall as a canvas in our community.
Multiple events will be held while the artists are in Lock Haven to showcase their program, talented artists and the final murals.
The first event will be a documentary showing at the Roxy Theatre on Oct. 8.
In 2020, DOTR completed a program in Indiana, Pa., and created a documentary to showcase their impact on the community. The full documentary, “Small Town Big Canvas: An Indiana, PA Story” will be shown at the Roxy Theatre beginning at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the free event. All are welcome to watch the documentary, ask questions and meet the artists!
The second event in the DOTR x Lock Haven initiative is a gallery show and artist talk at the Station Gallery on Oct. 11.
The gallery show will begin at 6 p.m. with the artist sharing information about their work at 7 p.m. This is a free event for all ages.
The final event will be a mural tour to showcase the final murals.
The walking tour will begin at 4 p.m. at the Roxy Theatre and end at the Annie Halenbake Ross Library. A short reception and refreshments will be available at the library to allow more time to connect with the artists and the community.
Everyone is welcome to attend this event but are asked to dress appropriately as it will be held entirely outdoors.
The city sends a huge thank you to the Roxy Theatre, Station Gallery and the Clinton County Arts Council and the Annie Halenbake Ross Library for donating their spaces for these events and continuing to be great partners in this initiative.
Another key partner for the initiative is Action Equipment, Inc. who donated equipment for the artists to reach new heights with their murals.
This initiative has been made possible by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and support from the Clinton County Visitors Bureau and Tourism Agency.
The city was successful in obtaining a Community Cultivation grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts in 2024 for the creation of the Active Arts Corridor.
One of the DOTR murals is along the future corridor while others are in key locations in the city. By showing continuous efforts toward the development of the Active Arts Corridor, the city can receive multiple years of funding to implement the project.
The city hopes the work by Dripped on the Road will kick off a new wave of public art and placemaking in the community. The upcoming years will bring more opportunities for Lock Haven to grow in the arts and create a more vibrant community.
Events related to this initiative will be posted on the City of Lock Haven’s Facebook page and Civil Space page under the Active Arts Corridor Project.
