LHFD Halloween Parade sees great turnout; creative costumes

LOCK HAVEN -- The Lock Haven Fire Department's annual Halloween Parade went off without a hitch this weekend, which was greeted with sunny skies and moderate temperatures.

Hundreds of children and families lined Main Street in downtown Lock Haven, many dressed up in their best costumes, to see what local community members, groups and organizations had in store for them with their floats and performances.

The parade ended in Triangle Park, where prizes were awarded for a variety of categories that included:

-- Best Overall Entry: Monsters Inc. - Kayla Miller and Charles, Emily and Melayna Haines

-- Best Float: Minions - Acorn School

-- Best Halloween Themed Group: Beauty and the Beast - Carol, Roger and Crystal Gentzyel, Ashley and EveLynn Mensch, and Marleigh Bertin

-- Best Halloween Themed Vehicle: Hot Rod with Flames - Wes and Della McCracken

-- Funniest: BigFoot - Nancy and Larry Haines

-- Cutest: Ketchup and Mustard Dogs - Chris, Brian and Zane Showers, and dogs Teeter, Dutton and Oakley

-- Best Costumed Pet: Americana Dogs - Audrey Flick, Kathy Moriarity, and dogs Kayla Louise and Teagan O'Donald

-- Best Child in a Wagon, Stroller or Buggy: F14 Fighter Jet and Rosie the Riveter - Lelynd Kile and Sarah Kines

-- Best Duo: Astronaut and Alien - Briar and Blaine Mason

-- Best Pop Culture: Harry Potter - Jake and Jackson Bauman

-- Best Crazy Mixed Up Costume: Susquehanna Valley Big Twins

-- Most Original: Swing Set - Quentin Gallagher

-- Judges' Award: Toy Story - Jess and Blake Dickey, Sis, Robin - Meilssa, Amber Elroy, Tisha, Shelley Pasley and Mazelynn

Following the awards, community members were encouraged to take part in various activities at the park including pumpkin decorating and other games.

Also following the parade was Downtown Lock Haven, Inc.'s annual Shop and Treat. Parade goers were encouraged to stop in a variety of downtown businesses to enjoy a sweet treat and check out what downtown has to offer.
