LOCKPORT -- During this month's Woodward Township Recreation Board meeting, township supervisors once again discussed the future of Riverfest.
Mark "the Shark" Schlesinger of Schlesinger Communications attended again to speak about the "Camp out for Cancer" event he suggested last month.
The idea of "Camp out for Cancer" is to work with the American Cancer Society and incorporate Relay for Life into Riverfest as a way to draw more attention from the community.
Schlesinger and others from the radio station plan to camp out at Riverfest and broadcast throughout the weekend.
The possibility of shifting Riverfest to the end of June was briefly discussed, but this choice has not been made concrete yet.
The potential of bringing back the cardboard boat races was also presented, with much discussion about who would be spearheading the event.
The concept of incorporating Toys for Tots was brought up, and connections are planned to be made.
The idea of "Camp out for Cancer" is not finalized yet, but the board is going to meet next month with a more concrete timeline of events.
Other items discussed during the regular meeting include:
-- Approving the dates for annual leaf collection. It will take place on Mondays and Fridays beginning Oct. 28 and ending Nov. 25.
-- The water at the boat launch bathroom has been shut off as of Thursday, Oct. 17, to prepare for construction and will remain closed for the remainder of the year. The bathrooms at Riverview Park will remain open until November.
-- Trick-or-treating in the township will be on Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
-- The board has approved the purchase of a new excavator in the amount of $78,646.03. The excavator will allow the road crew to do much needed ditch work and more.
