Coroner IDs victim from Thursday morning crash in Rauchtown

RAUCHTOWN — The Clinton County Coroner’s office has identified a man killed in a one-vehicle crash along Rauchtown Road, Jersey Shore, early Thursday morning.

Chief Deputy Coroner Jennifer Sholley issued a release Friday afternoon identifying Jonathan Corielus, 39, of Jersey Shore, as the victim of the crash that took place in the 2800 block of the roadway.

According to Nippenose Valley Fire Chief Dean Miller, the crash occurred at 5:40 a.m., less than two miles from the Clinton-Lycoming county line. Sholley pronounced Corielus dead at the scene at 6:40 a.m. as a result of the crash.

Corielus was driving an SUV and traveling south on Rauchtown Road when he lost control of the vehicle, Miller said. Conditions were very slippery, he added.

“The road was snow covered, but ice was packed down underneath the snow as a result of it storming overnight,” Miller told a reporter on Thursday.

Miller noted at the time Corielus was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

It appeared that the SUV first struck an embankment and flipped on its passenger side before crashing head-on into a tree, Miller said.

Besides Nippenose Valley, Jersey Shore firefighters also responded to the crash and assisted in removing the man from the wreckage.

State police at the Lamar barracks were leading the investigation.
