HOWARD -- Leon Bowman, 77, of rural Howard, has been reported missing.

State police at Rockview, with the help of volunteers at the Howard Fire Company, spent several hours on Wednesday afternoon combing the area near his home in Curtin Township, Centre County.

Bowman was last seen on Monday afternoon on Bowman Camp Road near his home by the rural mail carrier.

Bowman is described as being about 6 feet tall, weighing about 120 pounds, with gray, balding hair, a white beard and wears glasses.

A missing person's police report issued on Wednesday indicated that Bowman may be at special risk of harm or injury and may be experiencing some confusion.

PSP conducted a helicopter search of the rural area for nearly two hours on Wednesday. A K-9 search dog was also called in to assist with the ground search. The K-9 did not pick up on any hits and the direction of Bowman's travel from the residence is unknown at this time, according to officials.

According to Howard Fire Company Chief Josh Collins, the fire company assisted police in a grid search of the property in the area of Bowman's residence, off the Howard Divide Road and along Marsh Creek towards the Orviston Mountain Road.

The fire company also deployed units to travel local roadways in the area to look for any sign of someone walking.

State police released the fire company around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, but are continuing to follow any leads that may point to a direction or location to expand their search detail.

Local residents living in the area who may have outdoor sheds or buildings on their properties are asked to check them in case Bowman may have sought shelter from the cold temperatures.

Anyone with information on Bowman's whereabouts is asked to call PSP at 814-355-7545.

Additional updates will be provided as details are released.
