LOCK HAVEN -- The Castanea Township Recreation Committee has announced plans for the Inaugural Pennsylvania Chestnut Festival on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Castanea Fireman's Picnic Grounds Building, 859 Lower Creek Road, Piper Memorial Airport, in Lock Haven.
The event funded by the township supervisors, Clinton County Economic Partnership and Visitors Bureau and Clinton County Commissioners is designed to honor the heritage of chestnut trees and celebrate the naming of Castanea for the chestnut.
The free admission festival is expected to attract hundreds with live music, chestnut-based foods and beverages, vendors, exhibitors, portable ice rink and s'mores over outdoor burn barrels.
Musical performances are scheduled by the John Stevens Doubleshot Polka Band at 2 p.m. The band from northeast PA has appeared at numerous festivals and on Pennsylvania Polka. In 2003, they made the "Best New Songs" from 247POLKAHEAVEN.COM and hit number 5 with a new song in 2005. In that same year, they had a number 7 song at WPNA Radio in Illinois. They have a mission to promote the popularity of polka music to younger people.
Private Stock Trio, a Lock Haven based band, will perform at 5 p.m. The trio sings folk, country and acoustic rock hits, and performs throughout the area. The popular band has a significant following in the region.
Farmstead Fusion, caterers, will sell Sausage and Chestnut Stuffing Balls, Chestnut, Bacon and Parsnip Bisque, Winter Greens Salad with Chestnut Vinaigrette, Chestnut Coffee Chocolate Chip Cookies, BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders, Beef Chili and Buffalo Chicken Wraps.
A children's menu will be available for families. Hot chocolate and soda will also be available.
Bald Birds Brewing Company will sell a variety of alcoholic beverages.
Vendors and crafters will be available throughout the event. The PA Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation will provide information about the chestnut tree and the plan for its comeback.
