BE Twp. supers meeting business as usual

MILL HALL — It was business as usual for this month’s Bald Eagle Township Board of Supervisors meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, the supervisors amended a motion that was made in their previous minutes for clarification purposes.

Originally, a motion was made during their Feb. 17 meeting to allow residents to get 5-gallon buckets of stone or millings only at the township building.

Supervisor Kenny McGhee, Jr. indicated this motion was unclear as to the number of buckets residents were allowed to receive.

“The idea is safety,” said McGhee, “If there’s solid ice we don’t want (residents) to be sliding out on a public highway. That’s going to cause a wreck. What we’re sitting on here isn’t going to hurt us to help people out a little bit. As far as I know nobody has ever abused it.”

After a brief discussion, it was determined that residents would be allowed to take four 5-gallon buckets of stone or millings during the winter per each snow and ice occurrence.

In other news:

— The supervisors discussed the employee retirement plan options; previously they did not have a contributory pension plan. The township is looking into what other townships and boroughs have for plans for their employees. They unanimously voted to match their employee’s current 4 percent.

— A discussion about the fate of the township’s 2003 Peterbilt that will not pass inspection has been tabled until next month’s meeting.

— Beginning after the next election cycle, the supervisors will see a pay increase after adopting an ordinance that complies with a governance from the state of Pennsylvania enacted by PSAT.

— The discussion of a Weight Limit Ordinance for sections of Plunkets Run Road, Keystone Central Drive and Orner Road was discussed at length. At this time, the supervisors feel as though more core drilling needs to be completed in order to make an informed decision.
