LOCK HAVEN -- If you drive past Triangle Park in Lock Haven this Memorial Day weekend, you will see a magnificent sight of 168 full-sized American flags. Each flag is dedicated in honor of or in memory of a veteran, first-responder, family member, friend, co-worker or teacher, from members of the community.

The Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven is hosting a special ceremony on Sunday, May 25.

Starting at 11:30 a.m., members of the club will distribute commemorative booklets listing the sponsors and the names of those honored with a flag.

At 12 p.m., Rotary Area Governor Diahann Claghorn will welcome everyone to the ceremony, followed by the Colors presented by Terry Banfill and National Anthem sung by Kimberly Vance. The address will be given by Rotary District Governor Pam Wagoner. After a Folding of the Flag demonstration by Terry Banfill and Rotarians, the ceremony will conclude with a poem reading by Club President Marianne Lotfi and Taps played by James L. Franklin, Jr.

The public is welcome to walk among the flags and pay their respects to the men and women who are being honored and remembered. Each flagpole contains a plaque with the honoree's name and branch of service.

For the first time, the flags will be on display until Sunday, June 1...giving the community extra time to admire them.

The rain date for the ceremony is Sunday, June 1. Watch Downtown Lock Haven Rotary's Facebook page for updates.
