Michelle Kunes
LOCK HAVEN — Incumbent Clinton County Treasurer Michelle “Mick” Kunes will move on to the November General Election following Tuesday’s Municipal Primary.
According to preliminary election results, Kunes — who has served in the role for 14 years — leapt past challenger Leslie D. Clukey, earning 1,968 votes. Of that number, 1,705 were cast on Election Day and 263 were by mail-in ballot.
“I would like to say a big thank you to the voters and supporters of Clinton County for their continued support in the primary election, and a huge thank you to all of my family and friends for everything that they have done,” Kunes said in a statement to The Express.
Clukey received 1,363 total votes, according to preliminary results. Of that number, 1,165 were cast in-person and 198 via mail-in ballot.
Clukey thanked those who voted for her in the Primary Election.
“I greatly appreciate and am grateful to my family, my campaign committee, and all the volunteers who gave their time, energy, and resources to support my campaign,” Clukey said in a statement to The Express. “As a first time candidate for office, I sought an opportunity to serve our community. Preliminary election results indicate that I did not receive the Republican nomination for the Clinton County Treasurer slot in the November election.”
There’s the potential Kunes could face a challenger on the Democratic ticket. Though no candidates were officially listed, 548 write-ins were recorded. A candidate may be included on the November ballot if they receive at least 100 write-ins.
Clukey said her team will be watching the final certification of these results, along with others.
Write-in results are tallied at a later date following the Primary.
