Draped with honor: Local Vietnam Veteran receives Quilt of Valor

MILL HALL -- Arthur Klein, Jr., of Mill Hall, has been awarded a quilt through the Quilts of Valor Foundation for serving the United States Army.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation presented their first quilt in 2003 and have awarded a lifetime total of nearly 414,000 quilts across the country.

These quilts are quality, handmade pieces, hand or machine stitched by volunteers, awarded to service members who have been touched by war to thank them unequivocally for their service and sacrifice for the nation.

Klein was on his tour of duty from 1968 to 1970, and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas after Vietnam.

His tour of duty included Marksman Rifle 14, Expert Rifle M16 Awards, Vietnam Service Medal 3 Bronze Service Stars Education: Stock Control, Account Specialist Boot Camp: Fort Lee, Virginia.

Klein's certificate was signed by Quilts of Valor Foundation Executive Director Lexie Millikan and Group Leader of Red Rose Quilters of Lancaster, Pa. Vicki Bowman.

His certificate reads, "The Quilts of Valor Foundation wishes to recognize you for your service to our nation. We consider it our privilege to do so. Though we may never know the extent of your sacrifice to protect and defend the United States of America, we award you this Quilt of Valor as an expression of gratitude from a grateful nation."
