Centre allocates CDBG funds for waterline projects
BELLEFONTE — The Centre County Commissioners on Tuesday approved the allocation of $282,226 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for infrastructure projects across the county.
Earlier this month, SEDA-COG Project Coordinator Leslie Hosterman presented four projects for the commissioners’ consideration: two community water line replacements and two street reconstruction projects.
The Mountain Avenue Water Line Replacement project in Woodward requested $79,418 in CDBG funds to replace 700 feet of deteriorated water main. The total project cost is estimated to be $295,000.
In Aaronsburg, the HAMA Plum Street Water Main project sought $422,900 to replace water mains and valves along W. Plum Street and W. Aaron Square. The total project cost was initially $432,000 but was later reduced. According to Hosterman, changes to the project lowered the cost to $223,000, reducing the CDBG request to $202,808.
Two street construction projects in Milesburg were also considered.
The Limestone Street Reconstruction Project, which sought $38,000 of its $44,000 total cost to mill and repave deteriorated asphalt, and the Creek Street Reconstruction project, which requested $20,000 of the $24,000 total project cost for similar work.
Ultimately, the commissioners voted unanimously to fund the Mountain Avenue Water Line Replacement and the revised HAMA Plum Street Water Main projects, committing approximately $281,000 of available CDBG funding.
Commissioners said the decision was influenced in part by the flexibility of other potential funding sources that could better support the two Milesburg projects.
