LOCK HAVEN — Get ready to help the Clinton County Arts Council celebrate 10 years of LH JAMS with its annual Block Party at the intersection of Main and Grove streets in downtown Lock Haven.
“Get ready to party in the streets. This is the 10th anniversary of the LH JAMS Festival and we are celebrating in style,” LH JAMS Coordinator Steve Getz said. “It’s held annual right here in Lock Haven, one of Pennsylvania’s gems of outdoor beauty and adventure.”
The three-day festival features a Rockin’ the Red Barn performance on Aug. 7 — tickets can be purchased for that event at www.zeffy.com/ticketing/rockin-the-red-barn — featuring Nite-Time NYC. Proceeds from this event benefit the Jeff Gummo/CCAC Scholarship for the Arts and the Uptown Music Collective sponsorship.
Those attending the block party can bring their own chairs or reserve a spot at one of DLH’s many local restaurants prior to the performance.
Here’s more about each group that will be performing:
THE JADED LIPS
6 to 7:30 p.m.
“Homegrown Rock & Soul.” That is both how The Jaded Lips describe their sound as well as their band mantra. This dynamic trio composed of Mike Wertz (Vocals/Guitar), Hunter Karns (Bass) and Dave Applas (Drums), invoke shades of classic and modern rock, garage, blues and R&B. The group has shared the stage with multiple national acts such as The Clarks, Los Lobos, Trouble No More, Keller Williams, etc & playing well known music festivals like Flood City Festival. With the release of debut LP “Lip Service,” they have gone from the basement to the big stage through hard work, tight songcraft and high energy performances earning them rave reviews and nominated for “Best Rock Band of 2023” by the Central Pennsylvania Music Awards.
VELVEETA
8 to 10:30 p.m.
Velveeta will continue to spread the cheese again this year on Main Street with 80’s & 90’s hits. One of the most popular Central PA party bands, Velveeta will rock downtown with covers from Journey, the Cars, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Neil Diamond, Guns ‘N Roses, Tom Petty, U2 plus many many more. Last year was the first time for the Block Party and it was truly an awesome atmosphere with people of all ages singing and dancing from the opening song to the encore performance. One of area’s most popular ‘high energy’ bands, Velveeta was formed in the summer of 1995 with a tongue in cheek approach to the finest in cheesy 80’s music. Over the decades, Velveeta has honed their skills into one of the most entertaining and talented cover bands in the Northeast specializing in music from the golden age of MTV and music videos. Although they consider themselves entertainers instead of artists, their exceptional musical talents cannot be denied. Through the years, the band has expanded its repertoire, but the majority of their set-list is still music from the 1980s; from Cyndi Lauper and Billy Idol to Duran Duran and the B-52s, from Journey and The Cars to Joan Jett and Guns N’ Roses. Velveeta has performed at Steelers games at Heinz Field along with the pre-game festivities outside Beaver Stadium and Penn State’s THON. Band members include Brent Martin on Keys, Guitar and Vocals, John ‘Bones’ Harper on Drums and Vocals, Brian Kriley on Guitar and Vocals and Adam Becker Bass Guitar and Vocals.
