Woodward approves boat launch use requests
DUNNSTOWN — Ahead of highly-anticipated upcoming events along the river, the Woodward Township Supervisors addressed several matters relating to recreation, particularly at the Lockport Boat Launch.
Among the actions taken were approvals of use requests and an update on the security camera package authorized at their previous meeting.
Supervisors first approved The Salvation Army’s request to use the Lockport Boat Launch Park for its fourth annual Polar Plunge in November.
The motion, made by Supervisor Michael Fetzer and seconded by Supervisor John Bath, passed unanimously.
The Polar Plunge, which benefits The Salvation Army, is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Supervisors also unanimously approved a request from the Lock Haven Regatta Foundation to use the launch over Labor Day weekend. Each year, the park serves as a key access point for boats participating in the holiday races.
The 2025 Labor Day Regatta will run from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 and will feature powerboat racing, a carnival, food and craft vendors, live music and fireworks. Additional information is available at www.lockhavenregattafoundation.org.
In other updates, Supervisor Kyle Coleman reported that cameras approved for the bathrooms at Riverview Park and the boat launch are now operational.
“They are installed and up and running,” he said.
The cameras were first discussed in 2023, but no action was taken at that time.
Following previous incidents of vandalism at the park and boat launch, the supervisors said last week that installation was necessary. The four cameras, installed at each corner of the bathhouse, have remote viewing capabilities. The $5,390 project was completed by Keystone Security & Technologies, Inc.
Also at the park, Fetzer said he received a call from Robert L. Aungst, owner of Aungst Asphalt Services, about painting lines on the pickleball court.
“Hopefully we’ll get that done relatively soon, so maybe people can use it in the fall after Labor Day,” Fetzer said.
