LOGANTON — The annual Lenny G. Young III Memorial Shotgun Shoot was held at the Southern Clinton County Sportsman’s Club in Loganton on Aug. 9, honoring the memory of Lenny Young III, who tragically passed away in 2016.
The event was created by his parents, Len and Kathy Young, to celebrate the bond they shared through the Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) program.
Proceeds benefit the Lenny G. Young III Memorial Scholarship, managed by the Keystone Central Foundation, which supports local students who have participated in YHEC for at least two years and plan to continue their education after high school.
In 2025, three YHEC members each received a $2,500 scholarship — Collin Ankney, Daniel Brown and Hannah Heaton. Glenn Hough III, a student at Central Mountain High School, helped with the event as his Senior Project.
For Len and Kathy Young, the annual shoot is more than just a competition — it is a meaningful tribute to their son and a way to inspire future generations.
“We are honored to work with the Young family through the scholarship process each year,” remarked Keystone Central Foundation’s Executive Director, Melissa Bottorf. “They put so much time and effort into making this event memorable for every shooter, sponsor, volunteer and supporter to continue to make the shoot a success and ensure their son’s legacy lives on.”
The day also featured a silent auction with baskets, generous contributions from community sponsors and a chicken barbecue enjoyed by attendees.
Lenny’s legacy was present throughout the event — from displays of his photos and awards to his custom truck on display — reminding all of the young man’s life that continues to inspire others.
