Gallagher Twp. hosts final 175th celebration on Oct. 5
LOCK HAVEN — The Gallagher Township Board of Supervisors will host the final Heritage Day event of their year-long 175th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025, from 1-5 p.m., at the former Springer-Caldwell One Room School and the Gallagher Township Municipal Building located at 11837 Coudersport Pike, Lock Haven. The program is free and open to the public.
Festivities for the day include historical presentations, the unveiling of the township’s new historic logo, live music entertainment and food.
Warren Gottshall, a lifelong resident and former Caldwell School student from 1944 through 1952, will outline progress made to implement much needed repairs to the interior of the Springer-Caldwell School.
Local historian and genealogist Mary Copenhaver Hunter will talk about John Focht, 1773-1861, another founding father of Gallagher Township. Focht, a soldier who had served under Napoleon, immigrated from Germany, and was the grandfather of the Springer families in Gallagher Township. Focht also manufactured whiskey in the township long before Prince Farrington.
A presentation about Clara Lucinda Crider Fritz who was born, raised and lived in Caldwell all her life and wrote a popular and well-followed newspaper column, “Out Caldwell Way” for more than 30 years for The Express, will be shared by Loretta Coltrane.
Supervisors Will Mann, Brian Hoy and Bill McCoy plan to unveil the new township logo.
Music entertainment will be provided by Dusty Heggenstaller who will sing a mix of popular country and pop songs from 2-4 p.m.
Hamburger BBQ, apple dumplings, ice cream and beverages will be available for purchase to benefit repairs to the interior of the One Room Springer-Caldwell School.
The township was established in 1849, named in honor of Judge Gallagher of Pine Creek Township who played a pivotal role in its founding.
Early settlers included first permanent settler John Gottschalk and five Irishmen, John Thomas Lovett, George Lovett, Andrew Nolan, John Hennessey and Michael Welsh, who bought and settled on land which later became known as the “Irish Settlement.”
