SOUTH AVIS — A drone light show will light up the skies over the Pine Creek Corn Maze this weekend!

This is the third of five weekends for the 19-acre, 3.6-mile maze at the Pine Creek Seed Farm in South Avis, and the fall attraction continues to generate loads of interest from near and far!

“We love to see people come back to the maze again and again, so we try to offer something unique each weekend,” explains Pine Creek Corn Maze organizer Jennifer McCracken. “We use drones in our seed farm operation, so we started looking into drone performances and were able to book Star Flight Drone Shows out of Slatington, Pa., for a show at the maze this Saturday night.”

McCracken says the customized drone show will cap off the evening and is scheduled for around 8:30 p.m. Two area businesses — Miller’s Gun Shop and Bill’s Happy Camper RV Sales & Service — are drone show sponsors.

McCracken invites people to come for the maze, and to also spend time enjoying all of the festivities at the Seed Farm. Each weekend, there are different food, drink and craft vendors, as well as bands. There’s a pumpkin patch to wander through, animals to check out and games for all ages.

PHOTO PROVIDED Area elementary schools created photo stand-in boards that are situated throughout the Pumpkin Patch at the Pine Creek Corn Maze. These three youngsters are enjoying the board painted by students from Avis Elementary School. Visit the Pine Creek Seed Farm Corn Maze Facebook page to vote for your favorite photo stand-in board!

“We’ve got the Gamble Farm providing food and drink this weekend. Other food and drink vendors include the Pretzel Spot, Tully’s Drinks, Cogan’s Funnel Cakes and Brace Face Candy,” says McCracken, adding that acoustic duo Bubby & Swales is slated to perform Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. On Sunday, Bubby & Swales are back to host an afternoon of open mic from 1-4 p.m.

Proceeds from the nonprofit corn maze are earmarked for several local organizations, all of which provide volunteers to help at the maze. Beneficiaries this year include the Jersey Shore Boys Basketball Boosters, Avis Volunteer Fire Company, Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority at Commonwealth University-Lock Haven, Jersey Shore Public Library, Hyner Lodge Foundation, Lock Haven Catholic School and the Avis Area Recreation Association.

The Pine Creek Corn Maze opens at noon on Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 26. Admission is only $10 per person, with children age three and under admitted free. This year’s fifth annual maze pays tribute to the PA Wilds region of northcentral Pennsylvania, with the maze featuring images of various outdoor offerings including kayaking, hiking, camping and more. At the heart of the maze is the PA Wilds logo of a bull elk inside a keystone.
