BLANCHARD — Principal Brett Umbenhouer warmly welcomed guest speaker Patrick McBride to Liberty-Curtin Elementary School, or as the kids knew him, Benjamin Franklin.

Benjamin Franklin was one of several volunteers for America250PA that shared the importance of our Declaration of Independence and the 250th birthday of our country.

Liberty-Curtin became the starting point for the America250PA volunteer team as they made their way through the elementary schools in the district on Monday, Oct. 27.

Throughout his presentation, Franklin shared many of his inventions with the kids including swimming fins, bifocals and lightning rods.

A large print of the Declaration of Independence was shown amongst the kids as Franklin explained the steps behind printmaking and writing back in his day as he served a key role.

Franklin ended his speech by sharing some words of wisdom with the students:

“Your mind is a super computer and the ability to think is given to each and every one of us. It’s how we use it. It’s whether you switch your computer on or leave it off.”

Starting at $3.69/week.
