BLANCHARD — Students at Liberty-Curtin Elementary School are leaving their mark on history as they take part in the “250 Years and Still Growing” Mural and Mosaic Project, celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. The 4th grade students teamed up with Community Development and Housing Coordinator Elizabeth Whitty to help create a lasting piece of community art.

Under the guidance of Mrs. Smith, Liberty-Curtin’s 4th grade teacher, students each painted their own unique tile using special paint kits provided for the project. These colorful creations will join more than 750 community-painted tiles forming a mural of the historic Tiadaghton Elm Tree, a powerful local and national symbol.

Each student was encouraged to express their imagination and individuality through their artwork, creating a one-of-a-kind contribution to the larger masterpiece. The students were thrilled to play a part in such a meaningful project and proud to “make their mark” in celebrating America’s 250 years.

Throughout the school year, the 4th graders have been learning about the nation’s history, its struggles, triumphs, and growth, making this project a perfect hands-on extension of their studies. The finished mural will be unveiled in July 2026, just in time for America’s 250th birthday celebration.

Starting at $3.69/week.
