WOOLRICH — On Saturday, Oct. 4, with more than 60 people in attendance, the Pine Creek Township Recreation Committee celebrated the launch of its Memorial & Tribute Giving Program with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Woolrich Park — officially unveiling the first three benches and two trees installed through the initiative-and honoring the memories of Fields Porter, Jim and Vera Saar and Steve Temple.
The Memorial & Tribute Giving Program is one of several community engagement efforts developed by the Recreation Committee to support both Woolrich and Avis Parks.
Committee Chair Taryn Saar explained:
— The Friends of the Park Program invites residents to volunteer for park events and activities.
— The Memorial & Tribute Giving Program offers a way to honor loved ones through the dedication of benches and trees.

During the ceremony, Barbara Temple shared heartfelt remarks before cutting the red ribbon wrapped around a new bench installed along the walking path overlooking the ball fields. She reflected on her late husband, Steve Temple, who helped construct those very fields–now visible from the bench engraved in his memory.
Speaking on behalf of the Saar and Porter families, Taryn Saar commemorated the lives of Jim and Vera Saar and Fields Porter, saying, “All three of them will be remembered each day as a safe place to sit and just be–enjoying nature and allowing community to happen organically.”
