Dr. Gina Pighetti

WINGATE — This month, the Bald Eagle Area School District Board of Directors approved the resignation of its member, Brandi Bartley, and reviewed applications for her replacement.

Following interviews, the board approved the placement of Dr. Gina Pighetti to serve out the remainder of Bartley’s term.

Dr. Pighetti, a BEA alum, worked as an Associate Professor of Animal Science at the University of Tennessee before moving back to the area a few years ago.

Dr. Pighetti will represent Region 3, comprising Milesburg Borough, Howard Borough, Boggs Township and Howard Township.

In other business the board:

— Approved the purchase of a driver’s education vehicle from Joel Confer.

— Thanks to the Stocker Subaru Loves Learning program, several Wingate Elementary teachers received grant money to purchase extra supplies and materials for their classrooms.

— Mr. Biddle’s Horticulture and 8th Grade Intro to Agriculture classes recently planted winterberry shrubs at the Environmental Center. The berries from the shrubs will be harvested by FFA students for use in wreathmaking during the holiday season, and will serve as a good food source for the birds. The winterberry shrubs were purchased by the Eagle Ambassadors from donations made to the Environmental Center GoFundMe campaign. Thanks to generous contributors who made this project possible.

— BEA Art and Photography classes welcomed local author and photographer Jack Woodring who shared his journey of writing and publishing his children’s books about bullying, giving students a behind-the-scenes look at how a story becomes a finished book. Woodring also shared his stunning black and white photography and his passion for creative expression.

— Bald Eagle Area School District is looking for substitute support staff and will be holding walk-in interviews on Oct. 31, Nov. 14 and Dec. 5. For more information about the interview process, please call the HR Department at 814-355-4860.
