BELLEFONTE -- On Dec. 18, the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) announced a variety of grant awardees that include Centre County municipalities and authorities.
Over a dozen Centre County municipalities and authorities will receive Local Share Account grant funds in the latest grant award. Applications submitted in the fall of 2024 received notice of their approvals for a variety of projects throughout Centre County. The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 2004-71), as amended, provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The following municipalities and authorities were listed as awardees and a brief description of their project is provided by CFA:
Centre County municipalities received funding:
-- Burnside Township $122,100: Burnside Township utility truck
-- College Township $250,000: Regional bike/pedestrian path project
-- Ferguson Township $125,000: Pedestrian and bike safety improvements for Science Park Road.
-- Howard Borough $30,475: Howard Fire Company digital sign
-- Howard Township $276,315: Howard Fire Company mini pumper
-- Milesburg Water Authority $64,632: Equipment purchase
-- Nittany Valley Joint Recreation Authority $200,000: Kepler Pool
-- Patton Township $100,000: Public safety improvements
-- Penn Township $100,000: Backhoe purchase
-- Philipsburg Borough $300,000: Restoring sidewalks
-- Potter Township $75,000: Plow truck replacement
-- Snow Shoe Borough $141,110: Multi-street paving project
-- Snow Shoe Borough $67,159: Snow Shoe Township EMS facility
-- Snow Shoe Township $145,775: Truck purchase
-- Spring Township $25,000: Speed alert radar with trailers
-- State College Borough $133,110: Downtown enhancement project
-- State College Borough Redevelopment Authority $76,753: Hiester Street pocket park and Calder Way public art gallery
-- Taylor Township $125,000: Taylor Township community grader and backhoe grant
In total, $2,357,429 in grant funding will be coming into Centre County to meet a variety of public needs. Competition for funds was very strong, and the demand far exceeded the available funds. CFA received eligible requests totaling over $1.3 billion for the approximately $268 million that was available.
Greenways, Trails and Recreation funding was also announced with Snow Shoe Township receiving $50,000 for the Show Shoe Township Municipal Park.
