LOCK HAVEN — The Clinton County Arts Council will once again offer a variety of summer classes that focus on a number of mediums — some of which are new to the program.

All classes will take place in July and are for students in grades 5 through 12.

Classes are hosted by the CCAC at The Station Gallery, 2 E. Bald Eagle St., Lock Haven,

Classes that will be offered this year include:

SHUTTERFLIES

Local photographer Bruce Wallace will lead students through sessions that focus on basic use of a camera, techniques involved in creating a photograph and techniques in processing a photo on a computer. Each day will include a brief workshop followed by a photo walk to capture images that reflect what he teaches in the workshop. The class is open to kids in grades 5 to 9 with 10 seats available. The class will be held at 9 a.m. July 6 through July 10.

PERCEPTUAL DRAWING

New this year, CCAC will offer “Perceptual Drawing” with instructor Jordan Shutters. The class will take place July 6 through July 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the gallery. The objective of the class, which is open to kids in grades 6 to 12, is to help them gain skills in basic drawing techniques and practice creating concepts from scratch. Each day will include a focus including Character on Monday; Scene on Tuesday; Narrative on Wednesday; Studio Time/Group Critique on Thursday; Studio Time/Exhibit Prep on Friday. A showing of the students’ work from the class will take place at p.m. on the final day. This class is open to 12 students.

CAMP CREATE

Instructor Amy Shoemaker is returning again this year for Camp Create, a mixed media class for children in grades 4 to 9. There are 15 seats available for these classes which will see students enjoy an exciting mix of art experiences. Amy’s theme-based experiences have made this the most popular camp in the last five years. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on July 13 through July 17.

PAINTING

Another new class coming to the gallery is painting with Amanda Gearhart. The class will be held from July 20 through July 24 for students in grades 6 through 12. The class has 12 seats and will be a “Paint n’ Hang.” Kids can hang out with like-minded creatives while building friendships and working on a variety of hands-on painting experiences like Plein Air, Texture Painting, Flow Art and more. These techniques will follow daily themes of animals, nature and abstracts. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon.

CLAYMATION

Continuing in the trend of new and unique art experiences, the gallery will host a claymation workshop with Gearhart from 1 to 4 p.m. on July 20 through July 24. 10 seats are available for this class for students grades 6 through 12. For those kids who like animation style storytelling, such as “Nightmare Before Christmas,” Coraline” and “Corpse Bride” along with other stop motion movies, this class is perfect. Students will plan their own micro short, learning all the steps of the production process. They’ll start the week off with storyboarding, moving through character and set design, filming, editing. By Friday, students will get to premiere their claymation work.

CREATING COMICS

Students interested in comics will have the chance to learn from an artist who has worked on a number of graphic novels during the gallery’s new “Creating Comics” class with Chris Ring. Ring is a 30-year comic veteran who will guide students through the process of creating art for comic books and graphic novels including layout, composition, anatomy, penciling, inking, lettering and coloring. The course, open to kids in grades 6 to 12, will be structured for both beginners and advanced students. 12 seats are available in this class. Classes will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on July 20 through 24 at the gallery.

The Summer Art Academy is sponsored by Woodlands Bank and the CCAC.

Students may register for one or more of the camps where they will create several projects. These creations will be presented the last day of each camp at the gallery with materials provided for campus-use only.

Registration costs $30 for each camp, with a limited number of seats open for each program.

Starting at $3.69/week.
