BEA announces Burger as Wingate principal

Will shift from interim position in July

Kathryn Burger

WINGATE — The Bald Eagle Area School District Board of Directors recently announced its unanimous approval to hire Kathryn Burger as principal of Wingate Elementary. Burger has served as interim principal since November 2025, replacing James Orichosky who served as a teacher, principal and director of elementary education in the district.

According to a release from the school board, Burger began her teaching career in the district as an elementary reading specialist from 2013-2015, before serving as a special education teacher. Burger moved into the role of MTSS Coordinator in 2020.

In the 2024-25 school year, Burger also served as assistant director of special education. The board’s release noted her wide range of teaching and leadership experiences make her an ideal fit for her new role.

A graduate in the Class of 2008 from Bald Eagle Area High School, Burger attended Penn State University majoring in Special Education. She earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Penn State and Principal’s Certification from Point Park University.

“We are excited to have Kathryn lead Wingate Elementary,” said Chris Santini, superintendent of the Bald Eagle Area School District. “Kathryn’s knowledge of special education, data-driven school improvement and ability to work with teachers under her leadership has made her an ideal fit for the position. While she has big shoes to fill, she has proven during her interim principal service that she is a skilled and capable leader, and we look forward to seeing her grow in her new role.”

Burger was welcomed by the board’s president.

“The Board of Directors is pleased to welcome Kathryn Burger as the Principal of Wingate Elementary,” said Tina Greene. “Kathryn has served in several positions in our district and has proven her dedication to the growth and achievement of the students. Her passion for education is on display everyday at Wingate as she supports the students, staff and families. We know her love for learning and the district will continue in her new role as she leads Wingate Elementary.”

Burger said she was thrilled to take on the leadership role.

“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead alongside such dedicated educators, supportive families and remarkable students at Wingate Elementary,” she said. “My goal is to continue building a positive, supportive student-centered environment where each child feels safe, valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.”

Kathryn and her husband, Trey, reside in Clarence. They have two children, Jack and Abigail. Burger will complete her interim role in June and officially move into the role of principal on July 1, 2026.

Starting at $3.69/week.
