JERSEY SHORE — A bridge restoration project along state Route 44, over the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, that connects Jersey Shore Borough and Nippenose Township is continuing, with PennDOT officials reminding motorists of its impact on commutes and restrictions in place.
According to a release from PennDOT, Spartan Contracting, LLC., is the prime contractor for this $3.1 million bridge restoration project. Work on the project includes steel repairs and painting, with work expected to be complete in the fall, weather permitting.
During the week of May 25, the contractor is performing steel repairs and continuing the construction of a work platform as it prepares for bridge painting.
The release notes drivers should continue to expect single lane restrictions with flagging during daylight hours, particularly at the intersection of Main Street in downtown Jersey Shore.
The following impacts and restrictions are expected:
— Traffic signals at the intersection of Route 44 and Main Street (Route 3003) will be placed in flashing mode and traffic will be maintained by flaggers during daylight hours.
— A 13-foot by 6 inch height restriction is in effect on the river bridge and will remain through the duration of the project.
— On Tuesday, June 2, a 10-foot width restriction will be implemented on the river bridge and will remain throughout the duration of the project.
— On Tuesday, June 2, temporary traffic signals will be turned on and a truck detour will be implemented and will remain in place for the duration of the project.
PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
