2026 Sentimental Journey Fly-In events

LOCK HAVEN — The 40th annual Sentimental Journey Fly-In, which celebrates Lock Haven’s aviation heritage and its historic ties to Piper Aircraft, is underway.

First organized in 1986 by a group of volunteers dedicated to preserving the legacy of the iconic Piper Cub, the event began as a small aeronautical reunion and has since grown into a signature aviation event in the region, welcoming thousands of aviation enthusiasts from across the country and beyond.

As usual, this year’s milestone Fly-In is being held at Piper Memorial Airport in Lock Haven. Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for attendees ages 13-17 and free for children 12 and under. A full-week event pass is also available for purchase online.

Now through Sunday, June 14, the following events will take place:

THURSDAY, June 11

— 9 a.m.: Sentimental Journey Fly-in and Piper Museum gates open.

— 10 a.m.: Forum with Mitch Haubert (A/P, IA), “Fabric Covering Hands on Workshop Part 1,” at the South Hangars.

— 10 a.m.: Forum with Rick Harowitz (FAA), topic TBD, at the Univair Forum Tent (Earn Wings credits!).

— 10 a.m.: Depart by personal planes to Penns Cave Airport and float down the underground river. Meet at the Flight Line. You must have signed up for this event by Tuesday. The tour starts at 11 a.m.

— 10 a.m.: “Keeping Your Antique Flying” a general restoration Q&A with Clyde Smith, the Cub Doctor, at the Museum Shop.

— 11 a.m.: Forum with Mike Damiani (A/P, IA), “The Mysteries of Lycoming Lubrication Systems” at the Univair Forum Tent.

— 1 p.m.: Travel to Lycoming Engine for a tour. Participants should meet at Transportation.

— 2 p.m.: Forum with Ryan Stark (Blackstone Labs) “Understand your Engine Better Through Oil Analysis” at the Univair Forum Tent.

— 2 p.m.: Kidz Arts & Crafts with Amanda and Liz at the Pavilion.

— 5 p.m.: Registration and Commercial buildings close.

— 5 p.m.: Gary’s Pub opens and Fred Jackson’s Corn Boil begins at the Pavillion.

— 5 p.m.: Quiet Birdmen Meeting and Dinner, open to members and guests, on the third floor of the museum.

— 7 p.m.: Live music with the Lindy Sisters, sponsored by David Benson.

— SUNSET: Aviation photographer Tom Pawlesh will be on the field taking dramatic sunset portraits of planes. Call/text him at ‭412-973-7369‬ to arrange photos of your plane.

FRIDAY, June 12

Friday is Youth Aviation Career Day, introducing young people to the science and art of aviation, sponsored by Packer & Associates Aviation Insurance. Admission is free on Friday for all teens and one accompanying adult, sponsored by Lycoming Aircraft Engines. Friday is also “Bill Piper Day,” with free unlimited coffee at participating vendors, courtesy of Phil and Sharon Hoy. Tickets are available at the Pavilion.

— SUNRISE: Powered parachute demo by the flyers from Jersey Shore, Pa. at the Flight Line.

— 9 a.m.: Sentimental Journey Fly-in and Piper Museum gates open.

— 9:30 a.m.: Youth Aviation Career Presentations. Hear from a dozen experts in aviation about their careers and see if their options fit your preferences at the Univair Forum Tent.

— 10 a.m.: Comanche Gear Up Seminar and all day, hands-on demo at the South Hangars

— 10 a.m.: “Keeping Your Antique Flying” a general restoration Q&A with Clyde Smith, the Cub Doctor, at the Museum Shop.

— 10 a.m.: Young Eagles Rides outside Piper Museum. Free airplane rides for all kids from ages 8-17. Parental permission required and limited availability. Last registration at 3 p.m. with last flight about 4 p.m.

— 10 a.m.: Build and launch your own rocket with the Penn State Rocket Lab on the South Field. Sign-up at the Cub House, limit of one rocket per family.

— 10:30 a.m.: Meet recruiters from schools, airlines, companies and the military to learn about aviation careers at the Pavillion.

— 10:30 a.m.: Forum with Rick Harowitz (FAA), topic TBD, at the Univair Forum Tent (Earn Wings credits!)

— 11:30 a.m.: Flour Drop pilots briefing at the tower.

— 12 p.m.: Flour Drop on the Grass Runway. Watch volunteer pilots test their skills dropping bags of flour on tiny targets. Pilots can buy “flour bombs” at the Cub House

— 1 p.m.: Wings of Williamsport Radio Controlled Model Airplane Club on the South Field. Watch these experts race their amazing planes and do astounding stunts.

— 1 p.m.: Young Eagles Rides outside Piper Museum in blue tent. Free airplane rides for all kids from ages 8-17. Parental permission required and limited availability. Last registration at 3 p.m. with last flight about 4 p.m.

— 1 p.m.: Forum with Mike O’Neal, “WWI Aviation History,” at the Univair Forum Tent

— 2 p.m.: Forum with Rick Harowitz (FAA), topic TBD, at the Univair Forum Tent (Earn Wings credits!)

— 2 p.m.: Kidz Arts & Crafts with Amanda and Liz at the Pavilion.

— 4 p.m.: Sponsor auction of aircraft parts, supplies and materials. Many sponsors have donated products to SJ2026 to be auctioned to pilots and visitors. Come to the Pavilion and get some great products at unbelievable prices! Cash or credit card are accepted.

— 5 p.m.: Registration and Commercial buildings CLOSE.

— 5 p.m.: Gary’s Pub opens and Fred Jackson’s Corn Boil begins at the Pavillion.

— 5:30 p.m.: Annual Awards Banquet in the Aztec Room on the third floor of the Piper Museum. The SJ Awards Banquet Friday evening is a capstone event, celebrating the week shared together and all things general aviation. The keynote speaker will be Ron Gunnarson, VP of Sales and Marketing at Piper Aircraft. Admission is by ticket only, which will be sold all week in the Cub House adjacent to the Main Gate. SEATING IS LIMITED. Social Hour starts at 5:30 p.m. Music provided by Phil Reeder.

— 7 p.m.: Live music and entertainment by Keystone Cats at the Pavillion.

— SUNSET: Aviation photographer Tom Pawlesh will be on the field taking dramatic sunset portraits of planes. Call/text him at ‭412-973-7369‬ to arrange photos of your plane.

— SUNSET: Lock Haven’s first Sunset Drone Show. Organizers said the best views will be from the Pavillion.

SATURDAY, June 13

Saturday is Community Day, celebrating Lock Haven’s aviation history and International Young Eagles Day. Gates are open free of charge.

— SUNRISE: Powered parachute demo by the flyers from Jersey Shore, Pa. at Flight Line.

— 9 a.m.: Sentimental Journey Fly-in and Piper Museum gates OPEN.

— 9 a.m.: Motorcycle show organized by the Susquehanna Valley Big Twins Motorcycle Club at Flight Line. The SVBTMC is a local non-profit dedicated to helping those in need.

— 9 a.m.: Short take-off and landing (STOL) exhibition “practice” with planes jumping off the runway in amazingly short take-off runs at Flight Line.

— 10 a.m.: Free plane rides for all kids 8-17 in celebration of International Young Eagles Day. Each year the aviation world sets aside one day to encourage all EAA members and chapters to participate in the Young Eagles program to share passion for aviation with the next generation. Parental permission required and limited availability. Last registration at 3 p.m. with last flight about 4 p.m at the blue tent outside the Piper Museum.

— 10 a.m.: Wings of Williamsport Radio Controlled Model Airplane Club on the South Field. Watch these experts race their amazing planes and do astounding stunts.

— 10 a.m.: Forum at Univair Forum Tent with David Tulis (AOPA Senior Photographer), “Tips & Techniques for your Aviation Photography.”

— 10 a.m.: Short take-off and landing (STOL) demonstrations on Turf Runway. This is a unique opportunity to see small airplanes flying right at the edge of what’s aerodynamically possible.

— 11 a.m.: Forum with Matt Ryan (AV WEB) on “The Transition to Unleaded Fuel by 2030?” at Univair Forum Tent.

— 11 a.m.: Basket Raffle winners drawn at blue vendor building.

— 12 p.m.: Missing man formation fly-over at Flight Line

— 1 p.m.: Build and launch your own rocket with the Penn State Rocket Lab on the South Field. Sign-up at the Cub House, limit of one rocket per family.

— 2 p.m.: Last chance to turn in Poker Hands. Play your Poker hand at the Pavillion.

— 2:30 p.m.: Forum with Kevin Bachland (Safety Pilot, General Dynamics) on “What G.A. Pilots Can Learn from a Corporate Safety Program” at the Univar Forum Tent.

— 2:30 p.m.: Spot Landing Contest #2 pilot briefing at Flight Line

— 3 p.m.: Spot Landing Contest #2 at Flight Line

— 5:30 p.m.: Parade of historic aircraft at Flight Line

— 5:30 p.m.: 50:50 Duckie Dive at Flight Line. Buy your rubber duckie outside the Cub House. They will all get dropped from a plane. The duck which lands closest to the target shares 50:50 the total prize.

— 5:30 p.m.: Registration and Commercial buildings CLOSE

— 6 p.m.: FREE pig roast at the Pavillion. All volunteers and attendees with wrist bands are invited.

— 7 p.m.: Live music with Western Range at the Pavillion, sponsored by Miller’s Gun Shop.

— SUNSET: Aviation photographer Tom Pawlesh will be on the field taking dramatic sunset portraits of planes. Call/text him at ‭412-973-7369‬ to get photos of your own plane.

SUNDAY, June 14

— SUNRISE: Breakfast vendors open; departure preparations for homebound flights
