FLEMINGTON — Sunshine, baseball, apple pie and a strong sense of community helped make Flemington Borough’s “Cheers to 250 Years” celebration a success on Saturday, June 6, as residents gathered at Grove Community Park to celebrate America’s upcoming 250th birthday.
Hosted by Flemington Borough Council as part of the nationwide America250 initiative, the event brought together families, friends and neighbors for an afternoon filled with patriotic pride, hometown traditions and community spirit.
The celebration began at noon with hot dogs made by council members, apple pie made by Hillview Wesleyan Church members and refreshments served at the park’s pavilion.
Donations collected for the food throughout the day benefited the Goodwill Hose Fire Company, Goodwill Ambulance Association and the borough’s Hi Neighbor Committee, organizations that play an important role in supporting the community year-round.
Attendees were able to enjoy an old-fashioned game of corn Bingo or gather at Rube Bressler Field for the afternoon’s featured attraction — a baseball game between Kline’s Mini Mayors and Engel’s Contracting. The game showcased not only friendly competition but also the borough’s appreciation for the traditions that have connected generations of residents.

Adding to the patriotic atmosphere following the National Anthem, Mayor Jo LaRocque threw out the ceremonial first pitch, drawing enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
Throughout the afternoon, residents of all ages enjoyed the opportunity to connect with neighbors, share stories and celebrate both the nation’s history and Flemington’s own rich heritage. Organizers were pleased with the strong turnout and the overwhelming community support shown throughout the event.
Borough officials expressed their gratitude to the volunteers, sponsors, participants and attendees whose efforts helped make the celebration such a memorable occasion.
As communities across the country prepare for the United States’ semiquincentennial in 2026, Flemington’s “Cheers to 250 Years” event demonstrated the values that have long defined the borough: service, pride, tradition and neighborly connection.
With a successful celebration now in the books, residents left Grove Community Park with fond memories and a renewed appreciation for the community spirit that continues to make Flemington a special place to call home.
