FLEMINGTON — Flemington Borough Council celebrated the success of its recent America250 community event during its first June meeting, highlighting strong volunteer participation and distributing proceeds raised during the borough’s “Cheers to 250 Years” celebration.
Council members praised the event as a collaborative effort that brought together borough officials, employees, community organizations and residents.
“I’ve been on council for 35 years, and I’m almost positive we’ve never had an event where every council person played a part in that event,” Council vice president Wayne Allison said. “It was just a great team effort.”
Allison noted that borough employees also contributed to the event, helping with preparations and activities throughout the day. He said the celebration drew strong attendance and generated enthusiasm for future community events.
“It was a great day for the borough,” Allison said. “The committee worked really well together.”
As part of the meeting, council presented donations generated through the America250 event to several local organizations that assisted with the celebration.
The Hi- Neighbor Committee received $337.17 in cash along with a $25 Weis gift card, Goodwill Hose Fire Company also received $337.17 and a $25 Weis gift card and Goodwill Hose Ambulance Association received a donation of $412.17.
Representatives from each organization accepted the contributions during the meeting.
Council members expressed appreciation for the support provided by the organizations during the event.
“We also had great help from the ambulance folks, the Hi Neighbor folks and the fire company,” Allison said. “It was just a great community involvement.”
Officials indicated that the success of the America250 celebration has prompted discussions about organizing additional community events in the future. Ideas mentioned included food truck gatherings, activities at the Little League field, water-related events and outdoor movie nights.
With a larger event in the future, Allison said organizers may be able to raise even more money for local groups.
In other business, council received an update on the Goodwill Hose Fire Company’s financial situation.
Following the fire company’s meeting, council members and fire company representatives reported that the fire company continues to seek an audit and has undergone leadership changes, including the appointment of a new treasurer. Borough officials said they remain committed to helping the organization once an audit is completed.
The council also approved forwarding revisions to a proposed property maintenance ordinance to the borough solicitor for review. The amendments would expand restrictions on outdoor stockpiling of materials and trash throughout a property rather than only in front yards, while providing exceptions for active construction projects with proper permits.
