City manager search narrowed down to three candidates

Council to set interview dates, staff meeting and community event

LOCK HAVEN — Lock Haven City Council’s hiring committee has narrowed it search for a new city manager down to just three candidates.

That news came from Mayor Joel Long, a member of the committee, during Monday night’s city council meeting.

Long said he and other members, Micah Clausen and Tami Brannan, were able to shrink the pool of candidates down from around 30 applicants total since the search began earlier this year.

City Planner/Interim Manager Abbey Roberts is currently working with the candidates to find a day each may come to City Hall to meet with staff, be interviewed by all of council and then take part in a meet-and-greet with members of the community.

Currently, its council’s intention these take place in the final week of July between July 27 and 31.

Long said he was happy with the process and the candidates being recommended.

“I’ve been thrilled with the process. Everybody’s worked well together. I think we’ve got some really intriguing candidates for the rest of you to look at,” he said.

Both Clausen and Brannan agreed with this.

In other business, council:

— Approved a use request of the J. Doyle Corman Amphitheater on July 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for WNEP’s GoJoeAmerica250 event. The request was made by the Clinton County Economic Partnership with the hopes the space can be filled with spectators cheering on Joe Snedeker as be bikes across the Jay Street Bridge into the city. Council also approved the bagging of meters in front of the Veterans Park for WNEP vehicles to park during the event.

— Approved, on first reading, the closure of a portion of Shamrock Street and Highland Street made by 198 Shamrock for a bike event on Aug. 27. Council will consider a second reading for the closure at its July 20 meeting.

— Discussed potentially waiving the 150-feet requirement for food trucks in its ordinance for an event organized by Pinch and Poke Tattoo Studio July 25 and 26. Owner, Brittany Brown, said she has spoken with restaurants in the area who were on board with the idea, noting the trucks that will be featured will not sell the same food items as local businesses. Brown said she’d provide letters of agreement from these businesses prior to council’s July 20 meeting, when they will consider a resolution to waive the requirement.

— Approved a commercial loan in the amount of $50,000 to Uncle Albert’s for the purchase of equipment as part of an ownership transfer.
