LOCK HAVEN -- Personnel changes in the sheriff's office, emergency services and the Clinton County Conservation District highlighted the Clinton County Board of Commissioners meeting Thursday morning, July 30, with commissioners unanimously approving all personnel-related items.
The board accepted the resignation of Brody Toner, a dispatcher trainee in the Department of Emergency Services, effective July 17.
Commissioners also confirmed the resignation of Deputy Sheriff Curtis Dershem, effective Aug. 14.
To help fill staffing needs in emergency services, the board approved the promotion of Kristen McAndrew from dispatcher trainee to full-time 911 dispatcher. McAndrew's promotion became effective July 25 and includes an annual salary of $43,418 (Grade H).
The sheriff's office will also gain a new deputy after the board approved the hiring of Cameron Quick as deputy sheriff. Quick will begin Aug. 3 at an annual salary of $38,304 (Grade G).
Commissioners also approved the hiring of Anne Benson as agriculture resources conservationist with the Clinton County Conservation District, effective Aug. 3.
The salary board additionally convened to consider Benson's starting salary, following public comment by conservation district chairman John Shapira who supported a 5% increase in the salary based on Benson's background, education and knowledge in the field, putting her annual salary at $45,895 (Grade K).
Shapira spoke to the commissioners during public comment before the approval of Benson's salary to talk more about the conversation district's lack of retention among employees and believes an increase in salary would allow for long term growth.
"To show our people that they can grow professionally, they can achieve certain goals and they can be rewarded for that," he said in response to retaining current and future employees,
According to Shapira, they have seen a turnover between 12 to 14 people over the last two years.
Along with support from the commissioners, Shapira thanked the board for their continued involvement and ongoing assistance.
