LOCK HAVEN -- Lock Haven residents will have the opportunity to meet the final three contenders for the city's top management position next week.
During its meeting on Monday night, it was announced the three candidates will be visiting Lock Haven on Monday, July 27, Tuesday, July 28, and Thursday, July 30.
"Next week is when the three finalists are coming to town. We have special days set up for each one of them," Mayor Joel Long, a member of the hiring committee said. "If you want to come meet the people who are up for the job, that's going to happen Monday, Tuesday and Thursday."
City Planner/Interim Manager Abbey Roberts told The Express the meetings come after a six month search involving a hiring committee -- made up of Long, council members Tami Brannan and Micah Clausen, herself and Jacob DeCarli of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
The hiring committee worked to compile the job description, which was ultimately approved by council earlier in the year, evaluate applicants and conduct interviews while providing ongoing updates to all of council.
This process culminated in three finalists who will come to Lock Haven next week.
"The interviews will consist of a meeting with the city's leadership team, tour of the city and city facilities, interview with city council and a community meet and greet," Roberts said.
The meet and greets will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. each night in council chambers, 20 E. Church St.
"Each meet and greet will focus on a specific candidate and be an informal setting for residents to meet the individuals and ask questions," she said.
Roberts encouraged community members to attend these meet and greet and provide feedback to candidates director, to councilmembers or herself. "City council will discuss the results of the second interviews through executive session and ultimately move toward hiring a new city manager through action in a public meeting," Roberts said.
In other business, council:
-- Heard from Director of Community Life Kasey Dumm about an inspection of the Tiger Den playground. Dumm said Leather and Associates, the firm that constructed the playground 20 years ago, would inspect the playground and its equipment this week, with a final review expected to be submitted within the next two weeks. The inspection is part of on-going efforts by community members who wish to see the playground preserved in whatever ways are possible. The community group has also offered to help fundraise to update the playground and make it safe for kids to play.
-- Approved the closure of a portion of Shamrock Street and Highland Street for Aug. 27 for the 198 Shamrock as part of an outdoor biking event.
-- Approved an event and passed a resolution to allow food trucks in the parking stalls along Vesper Street as part of a community event put on by Pinch N Poke Tattoo Studio.
-- Approved the placement of a banner across East Main Street on behalf of PA CareerLink's upcoming job fair.
-- Approved the use of Zindel Park for a wedding on July 28 and another on Oct. 17.
-- Approved a resolution for the reimbursement of sewer revenue.
-- Approved a resolution to extend the Lock Haven City Authority lease agreement to align with a PennVEST sewer loan.
