Heat advisory issued in county

By Arianna McKee 2 min read

LOCK HAVEN -- While the heat and humidity still isn't as bad as the previous heat wave, it is enough for the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory, effective today from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

As of Monday afternoon, forecasters were also advising that extending the advisory into Wednesday may be necessary.

For today, however, look out for a heat index of between 96-103, as hot and humid conditions take over across the region. As of Monday afternoon, the forecast was expecting a high of 96 and a heat index of 101.

Look for the high humidity to make sleeping without air conditioning miserable, too -- the temperature is only expected to drop to 73 Tuesday night.

Wednesday may end up being the hottest day of this heat wave, with the forecast calling for a high of 97. It was uncertain as of press time how bad the heat index will be, however, as the humidity is expected to break a little moving into Thursday, although temperatures will remain elevated.

Relief will come gradually, with temperatures dropping in steps towards the upper 80s by this weekend. The worst of the humidity will be gone by Thursday night.

Conditions will remain dry and clear this week, with no precipitation expected until Saturday, which will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms.

That chance of precipitation will stick around for Sunday, and long-term models are showing some potentially heavy rains arriving Saturday night or Sunday.

Starting at /week.
