LH JAMS Music and Art Festival returns Aug 6

LOCK HAVEN -- The Clinton County Arts Council's annual LH JAMS Music and Arts Festival is back again this year, running from Aug. 6 through Aug. 8 in and around downtown Lock Haven.

"The entire LH JAMS festival offers the very best of music, downtown restaurant cafe seating, premier food truck experiences, Straub beer & Oregon Hill winery, with constant entertainment from street performers, chalk artists, demonstrating artists and exciting fine art and craft vendors who will line the streets," a release from the CCAC said.

Craft vendors will feature everything from paintings to duck carving, tye-dye to finally crafted bangles of precious stones or hand-thrown pottery.

"Demonstrating artists will be happy to explain their work as they actively create on the streets of Lock Haven," the release said. "All which will provide family friendly fun for all who attend!"

Bring your own chairs, but for everyone's safety, no coolers or drinks are to be carried into the area's closed perimeter.

ROCKIN' THE

RED BARN

Back by popular demand, this ticketed performance helps fund the CCAC's scholarship and educational programs.

The event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. at 1900 Red Barn along Island Road just outside of Lock Haven.

This year the James Supra Band will entertain the crowd with doors opening at 6 p.m.

James is an award winning blues and rock musician who plays a wide variety of rock and blues favorites. His arrangements of WAR's 'Low Rider' and Jethro Tull's 'Locomotive Breath' will go beyond your expectations!

THE BLOCK PARTY

The music continues on Friday night with the annual Block Party from 5 to 10:30 p.m.

Two of the best Central Pa. party bands will take to the Main Street stage at the intersection of East Main and Grove streets.

First on stage will be Ted McCloskey and the Hi-Fi's and then enjoy the ever popular Velveeta playing 80s & 90s covers late into the night.

Enjoy craft and food vendors, cafe seating with Straub Brewery and Oregon Hill Winery and food vendors for the entire weekend. This is a free event open to the public.

MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL

Everything comes together on Saturday for LH JAMS all-day music and arts festival on Main Street.

The event will see performances beginning at noon and continuing until 10:30 p.m., featuring six bands.

The event creates a "dancing in the street party" and features its craft vendors, drink, street performers all blended together with live music.

Kicking off the Saturday music festivities will be student performers Central Mountain Jazz Cats.

These talented musicians from Central Mountain High School open the festival every year.

"This is one way our arts council can showcase and support the arts for youth in our area," the CCAC's release said.

Then, swing on into the afternoon with the prohibition style jazz band, Baby Soda, directly from Brooklyn, N.Y.

Next up, Philly's own Fishtown funk and soul band, The Groove Merchants, perform their "..tireless, faithful, throw-down grooves...", followed by Jersey's full-energy band, The Unstoppable Hack Beats, making their second appearance at LH JAMS.

This "Dancing in the Street Party" closes out the festival with two outstanding bands:

-- Diana Jacobs Band: This is a 10-piece pop and blues band out of Upstate New York. Highlighted by Diana's thrilling vocals, they play a range of work such as Gnarls Barkly's 'Crazy' to 'Ball and Chain' made popular by the likes of Janis Joplin and Etta James.

-- New York City's EpicSoul closes out the festival with a 10-piece premier party band, featuring phenomenal horn and percussion sections with three powerhouse vocalists who perform soul-stirring Motown medleys, to today's R&B, pop, rock and contemporary hits, spanning six decades of some of the most popular iconic American music.

This last performance of the festival is the Clinton County Arts Council's annual collaboration with the city's Lock Haven Summer Concert Series in order to bring outstanding cultural entertainers to Central PA.

The event will feature three stages and offer wall-to-wall free music well into the night.

New to this year's festival is the Strolling Minstrels, featuring a full list of talented musicians that will walk the festival and enter restaurants to bring softer musical selections into every corner of the event.

They will also perform at the newly added Quiet Side Stage, newly added from the two large stages on Main Street.

-- 4:15 to 5 p.m., open mic

-- 5 to 5:45 p.m., Sweetgum Band
