MILL HALL -- Keystone Central School District Interim-Superintendent Dr. Alan Lonconus has been busy getting up-to-date after taking on the role in early July.
Lonoconus has returned to the district after previously serving in an interim capacity in 2018. He is filling the spot left vacant by Dr. Francis Redmon in late June.
At its voting session last week, Lonconus said it's been a "steep learning curve these last three weeks."
"A lot has changed since I've been here in 2018. There's a lot of things that are obviously similar but a little bit different," he said Thursday night.
Lonoconus said he's been working through concerns brought forward by the board along with reviewing previous meetings to understand the direction its members are looking towards as well as everything that's taken place recently.
"I'm trying to put into context what we need to be doing as a staff during the summer here to make sure" things run well, he said.
He said so far he's met with members of the administration three times, who are "getting me up to speed and what's going on with them."
"I met with the administrative team (Wednesday), getting some information and then I'll be meeting with them individually so I can, one get to know the new ones, and also the issues I can help them with," he said.
Lonconus said his job is to help administration and staff do their jobs.
"Their job isn't to help me do mine. If they're doing their job, mine is easy," he said.
Among the items of interest he is working on, Lonoconus said personnel and the previously completed staffing study are currently on his radar. This also includes the curriculum director position and a job description.
"I will have some recommendations for the board to consider as we're moving forward and to see that impact," he said.
He said he's also collecting information regarding the staffing study.
"I will have to get a lot more up-to-date numbers," he said. "From everything I've seen in there it was fairly well done as far as the information laid out that was there. Now it's just a matter of updating it and getting real-time numbers."
He noted, given what he's seen so far, the need to spend funds on a firm is not necessary.
Lonconus added he's working on getting his email and calendar together, and thanks district staff for their help as he settles into his interim position.
"I'm finding working with all the staff so far very rewarding in that any assistance I need, they're there," he said. "All in all it's been going well."
