Plethora of events planned throughout summer following holiday weekend
LAURA JAMESON/THE EXPRESS Local band Astral Shakedown kicked off the Lock Haven Summer Concert Series floating stage performances on Sunday, June 28 at the J. Doyle Corman Amphitheater. The next concert on the floating stage is Sunday. July 12 with My Chemical Bromance.
Though the Fourth of July, which featured spectacular events for our nation’s 250th Birthday, has come and gone the area has only just scratched the surface of events happening this summer.
Here are just a few highlights of what you can expect in Clinton and Centre counties throughout July and August:
SUMMER CONCERT
SERIES CONTINUES
The Lock Haven Summer Concert Series will continue to provide a variety of live music for free at Triangle Park, the Main Street Stage and the Floating Stage throughout the summer.
Concerts kicked off in Triangle Park on Friday, June 19, with music slated to run each Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Upcoming performances include:
— Keith & Sonya’s Acoustic Roadshow on July 10
— The Bellefonte Community Band on July 17
— Biscuit Jam on July 24
— Private Stock Trio on Aug. 14.
In partnership with Downtown Lock Haven, Inc.’s Final Friday schedule, the city will host Kopper & Kash on the Main Street Stage on July 31.
The city will also be collaborating with the Clinton County Arts Council again in August. This concert will take place from 6 to 10:30 p.m. on Main Street as part of LH Jams annual Block Party.
As for the floating stage, there’s still more to come with performances from a variety of artists and featuring a number of genres for most music fans.
These concerts, held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Sundays, they include:
— My Chemical Bromance on July 12.
— Classic Rock Revival/Stir Crazy/Flashback on July 19.
— 91 Stitches on July 26.
— South Penn Dixie on Aug. 2
— The Gabe Stillman Band on Aug. 19
— DuMM on Aug. 16.
The concert series again partnered with the CCAC and the LH Jams Festival for a special Saturday concert on Main Street on Aug. 8, featuring EpicSoul.
All concerts are free, with the public encouraged to bring a chair, sit back, relax and enjoy some tunes.

ORVISTON FESTIVAL
The Orviston community is again welcoming area residents to join them for the annual Orviston Festival, set to kick off at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 10 with a Whiffle Ball Sluggers Derby.
Also featured on Friday is food and craft vendors until 9 p.m.
The festival continues on Saturday, July 11 with a breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. and food and craft vendors open all day.
Be sure to stop by at 10:30 a.m. for the opening ceremony and stick around for the parade at 2 p.m.
Basket raffles will be held as well, with tickets available until 6:30 p.m. and winners to be drawn at 9 p.m.
The event will end with a fireworks finale at 9:30 p.m.
The original summer festival was designed to pay homage to the booming brickyard factory and the by-gone era of the town, when there was a store, train depot, post office, school and church
Once the brick yard shut down the summer festivals stopped.
Until decades later, in the early 1990’s, when it was revived as the Orviston Celebration, under the direction of Jim Packer and (the late) Kels Lomison. Now, 30 years later, the tradition continues with many of the Packer and Lomison children and grandchildren working together to keep the summer celebration alive each year.
RIVERFEST
Woodward Township Recreation Committee’s annual Riverfest will kick off on Thursday, July 9 and run through Saturday, July 11 at the Lockport Boatlaunch.
The event features food, games and much more, including the annual Duck Derby. Tickets for the derby are available now at the Woodward Township office, The Second Cup and Puff N Snuff in Dunnstown. Those who enter will have the chance to win a $1,000 grand prize among other cash prizes. The derby will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
New this year, East Coast Watercross Tour will hold jet skit races from July 10 through 12 on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River.
Throughout the festival, live bands will perform including:
— Kidz at Heart, performing 6 to 9 p.m. on July 9.
— Over the Influence, performing 6 to 9 p.m. on July 10.
— Mixtape, performing from 7 to 10 p.m.
Riverfest is open from 5 to 9 p.m. on July 9 and 10 and 12 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 11.
CASTANEA DAYS
Castanea Days, organized by the township’s recreation committee and board of supervisors, will be held July 18 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the township.
The event will open with a Vendor and Craft Fair, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Castanea Historic Railroad Complex and Bald Eagle Valley Trail, 15 Logan Ave. The fair will feature 30 vendors, artisans and exhibitors; open house display by Clinton Central Model Railroad; open houses in historic cabooses by the Clinton County Historical Society and basket raffle to benefit recreation activities.
Just a few steps away at the Castanea Fire Company, 111 McElhattan Ave., the Wild World of Animals Family Show will kick-off at 12 p.m. with 12-13 different species of animals including birds, reptiles, mammals and arthropods. Admission is free. Castanea Fire Company will offer breakfast and lunch items throughout the morning and early afternoon.
Live music, pop-up outdoor bar and grill, inflatable for children and adults will begin at 4 p.m. at the Lock Haven Moose Lodge #100 Pavilion, 150 S. Hanna St., featuring The Caldwells from 4 to 6 p.m. with oldies from the 60s, and Anchor and Arrow, 7 to 9 p.m., with funked up jazz, soul, rock and pop.
FINAL FRIDAY IN DLH
Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. will continue its Final Friday street closures on Friday, July 31 from 3 to 9 p.m.
Visitors can shop at local businesses, enjoy outdoor dining at a number of restaurants and take in live music by Kopper and Cash.
With a special “Christmas in July” theme you can be sure to spot the Elf on the Shelf during his summer vacation along with other special activities. Also visiting the city is Belle from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”
Among the other activities will be face painting, a bounce house, games and ornament decoration for kids.
The next Final Friday will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 29 where DLH is teaming up with the Clinton County Conservation District to showcase agriculture at Farm-City Fest. The event will feature agricultural exhibits, mini petting zoo, barrel ride for kids, carriage ride for adults and provide the community the chance to learn about farm-to-table and the importance of agriculture for our county.

LAMAR LIGHTHOUSE
CONCERT SERIES
The Lamar Lighthouse Camp hosts live music as part of its weekly concert series each Sunday at 6 p.m. at the campground along Route 64 near Lamar.

LABOR DAY REGATTA
The Labor Day Regatta Foundations annual regatta, feautring boat races organized by the Delaware Outboard Racing Association, live music, food, craft vendors and rides, will take place from Sept. 4 through 7.
The annual event will see racers take to the West Branch of the Susquehanna River throughout these days and offer its mid-way on East Water Street near its intersection with Jay Street.
More information about the Regatta, including its musical line up, race times and more, will be available at a later date.
FIRE COMPANY FESTIVALS
A number of area fire companies will hold festivals in this summer including:
— Miles Township (Rebersburg) Fire Company’s Carnival begins Thursday, July 9 from 5 to 11 p.m. Hitchcock Railway will perform with rides, games, food and raffle drawings also available. A kids tractor pull will take place at 6 p.m. with registration beginning at 5 p.m. The next day on Friday, July 10, the carnival continues with its rides, games, food and raffles.
— Snow Shoe Fire Company will hold its carnival from July 14 to July 18, at the Sycamore Road carnival grounds. Rides, games, food, music and more will be available each evening.
COMMUNITY FESTIVALS
Many communities hold festivals over the summer for those looking for some fun. They include:
— The Jacksonville Festival, beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 18. The event features festival foods, games, raffles and live music, with proceeds benefiting the Jacksonville Cemetery Association. A pie baking contest will take place. with an America250 theme of red (cherry), white (apple) and blue (blueberry) pies. Winners will be announced at 5 p.m.
