LOCK HAVEN — Despite the heat and humidity, dozens of veterans, supporters and loved ones gathered on Saturday, which marked America’s 250th Birthday, to honor their country.

That morning, members of the Bland J. Rossman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1630 of Lock Haven raised a new flag in the City of Lock Haven, next to the J. Doyle Corman Amphitheater.

At the ceremony, the VFW raised a 10-foot by 15-foot flag on the 50-foot tall pole.

The flag is located just across the street from the recently updated Veterans Park at the intersection of Water and Jay streets.

The pole cost about $9,000 with concrete donated by Harger Utility Charities and equipment donated by Harger Utility Contractor and Action Equipment. The pole itself was installed by members of the VFW earlier in the week.

The VFW extended its thanks to those in the community who attended the ceremony.

“Your presence made the event truly special,” the organization shared following the flag raising.

The VFW also thanked everyone who helped work behind the scenes to make the dedication a success.

“Your dedication and support mean more than you know. It is a profound privilege to be able to provide a lasting tribute to our veterans and to our community,” the VFW said. “May this flag fly proudly for generations to come as a symbol of our gratitude and respect.”

It was previously noted by members of the organization that a small plaque will be placed at the pole to honor all Clinton County veterans.
