Busy and Exciting: Renovo library brings together community all summer long

RENOVO -- It has been a busy and exciting summer at the Renovo Area Public Library, with programs and events bringing community members of all ages through our doors.
The annual Summer Reading Program once again gave children the opportunity to discover new books, participate in hands-on activities and enjoy special presentations throughout the summer. One of the highlights was a magical performance by our guest magician, Tom Yurasits, whose show delighted children and families alike. We are grateful to everyone who participated and helped make this year's program such a success.
The library has also continued to expand opportunities for teens. Recent Teen Game Nights have provided a welcoming space for young people to gather, enjoy friendly competition and connect with friends. Another exciting addition to the library is our Infinity Game Table, purchased through the generosity of the Friends of the Renovo Area Public Library. Offering hundreds of digital board games, it has quickly become a favorite with visitors. Users for the table are required to be nine or older.
One of the highlights of the summer was a visit from Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary, a program which was sponsored by the Friends of the Renovo Area Public Library. The reptile program allowed visitors the opportunity to meet a variety of fascinating reptiles and learn about their habitats and care.
A special presentation by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) on making teas, jellies and other creations from plants found in nature was also held.. The hands-on plant program helped the audience not only learn how to forage for ingredients but then to make drinkable and edible treats provided by nature. Of course, samples were more than plentiful.
In the coming weeks the library will offer a flu-shot clinic, while in November the Renovo Library will offer a financial aid night to help students and families better understand the college financial aid process.
The library also hosts Coloring and Puzzle Groups every Tuesday evening. Community members are invited to stop in, relax, visit with friends, work on puzzles or enjoy coloring activities. Even when the group isn't meeting, puzzles and coloring materials are available for patrons to enjoy during regular library hours.
Looking ahead, we're excited to begin planning a community garden for next spring. The garden will provide another opportunity for neighbors of all ages to learn, grow and connect while beautifying our community.
Visitors to the library will also notice an exciting improvement to the outside of our building. Construction has recently been completed on a new accessible entrance, making the library more welcoming and easier to access for everyone in our community. "The project was expertly completed by Don Does It and made possible through the generous support of a grant from the Clinton County Community Foundation," said branch manager Barb Rauch. "We are sincerely grateful to both for helping create a more accessible and inviting library for our community."
"None of these opportunities would be possible without the support of our community partners and volunteers," the branch manager continued. "We are especially grateful to the Friends of the Renovo Area Library, whose generosity continues to enhance the library through projects, programs and special purchases that benefit patrons of all ages."
In addition to purchasing the Infinity Game Table and sponsoring the reptile program, the Friends have also purchased a new, universal device charging station, allowing patrons to conveniently charge phones, tablets and other electronic devices while visiting the library.
The Infinity Game Table is truly a past meets future idea. The coffee table-sized interactive gaming table features a touch screen that allows modern usage of Youtube or downloading apps, but then also brings board game classics like Scrabble and Monopoly to life in what would have been something out of a sci-fi movie just 20 years ago.
The Friends' annual fundraising letter is currently being mailed to area residents. Donations from this campaign help fund library programs, equipment and improvements that directly benefit the Renovo community.
From educational programs and family events to technology upgrades and exciting plans for the future, the Renovo Area Public Library continues to grow as a vibrant community gathering place.
