LOCK HAVEN -- Lock Haven City Council approved a number of use requests for various events and beautification leading from late summer into the fall.
First for approval was a request from the Lock Haven Regatta Foundation to close Water Street from Jay Street to Washington Street from Sept. 3 to 8 for the annual Labor Day Regatta. This was the second reading and final approval of the closure.
In a letter from DuWayne Kunes, chair of the foundation, the request is for the closure from 6 a.m. Sept. 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 8 and to block Henderson Street from Water Street to Jordan's Alley.
Also included in the closure request is restricting access and use of the sidewalk from Jay to Washington and from the corner of Water and Henderson to the alley and use of Canal Park and the Corman Amphitheater.
In its approval, council also gave the go ahead for access to the Grant Street Dam area on Sunday, Sept. 6, for the fireworks show. Monday, Sept. 7, was approved as the rain date.
With the request's approval, the city will fence off the city beach during the regatta and provide free parking for Saturday, Sept. 5.
Council also approved a request by Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven to sell Angel Light Luminaries in Triangle Park on Sept. 9, 10 and 11 leading up to its annual display on Sept. 11.
As fall grows nearer, Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. requested the use of streetlights along Main Street for its annual scarecrow decorations from Sept. 21 through Nov. 2. Council unanimously approved the request.
The final use request approved was by Zeta Tau Alpha for the levee on Oct. 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a 5K. Community Life Director Kasey Dumm noted this would not require any closures of roadways near the levee, as participants would run solely on the levee walkway.
In other business, council:
