MILL HALL -- The Keystone Central School District Board of Directors issued a statement regarding the ongoing search for the district's next superintendent, as the application deadline nears.
In July, the board hired Tempeltone Advantage, LLC, in partnership with BLaST Intermediate Unit #17, to lead the process.
In August, it was announced applications were being accepted until Aug. 31.
With the deadline for applications just under a week away, the board issued a statement regarding the search.
"The most significant responsibility of a board of school directors is selecting the district's superintendent. This is a decision that is about choosing the leader who will help shape the district's future, influence culture, inspire its staff, drive student achievement and translate the board's vision into meaningful results," the release, issued Monday, said.
In the release, the board stated it is approaching the search with "both purpose and patience." It further notes it is working with Tom Templeton, founder and creative director of Templeton Advantage, while engaging in "thoughtful conversations about the district's future, reviewing best practices and developing a process designed to identify the leader who is right for Keystone Central."
The release stated that, following the application deadline, the board will review candidate materials and conduct preliminary interviews with select individuals.
A second round will follow and focus "more deeply on the candidates whose leadership experience, philosophy, character and demonstrated results most closely align with the priorities established through the process."
To prepare, the board's release said it has requested Templeton Advantage design "an interview process that meets the highest standards of professionalism, ethics and human resource management."
"While we are committed to executing a deliberate and timely process, we will not allow the calendar to govern this decision," the release said. "We will appoint a superintendent when we find the right person to lead Keystone Central."
"Our students deserve a leader who will believe deeply in their potential. Our administration, faculty and staff deserve a leader who will inspire, support and challenge them to excellence. And our communities deserve a leader who will embrace the opportunity to move the district forward with purpose, integrity, optimism and courage," the release concluded. "This is an investment in the future of Keystone Central. We intend to get it right."
The search for a new superintendent began to take shape at the end of June, when then-superintendent Dr. Francis Redmon resigned from the position.
Currently, the district is under the leadership of interim Superintendent Dr. Alan Lonoconus, who previously served in the role for Keystone Central in 2018.
