MACKEYVILLE -- Every year, financial support from the Clinton County Community Foundation allows the Clinton County Fair Association to make improvements to the 65-acre Fairground in Mackeyville.
"We're extremely thankful for that long-standing support from the foundation," says Fair Association President Philip Courter, "and one way we recognize that partnership is to designate today 'Clinton County Community Foundation Day' at the fair."
Day six of fair week is filled with action, headlined by the wildly popular Bullride Mania rodeo, scheduled tonight in the Lower Horse Ring at the Fairgrounds. There is a separate, $15 admission for the 7 p.m. rodeo. The arena gate opens at 5:30 p.m., and the event will be held rain or shine.
Today's activities begin at 9 a.m. when Clinton County 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) youth show their poultry.
Also at 9 a.m. is a Barn Quilt Painting Demonstration. Instructor Heidi Bohnert leads participants in making their own 2×2-foot wooden barn quilt painting.
Youth horseback games get underway at 10 a.m. today.
Classic Rock band Over the Influence takes to the Auxiliary Stage tonight for two high-energy shows at 6 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. Band members Mark Sopic, Dave Curulla, Denny Accordino and Jeff Johnston deliver music that made the late 70s and 80s legendary.
In the Livestock Show Arena, the younger set always draws a crowd for the annual Pedal Power Tractor Pull, as people cheer to see how far the kids can pedal a mini tractor dragging a weight. The 7 p.m. Pedal Pull is sponsored by Lock Haven Moose Lodge 100.
In addition to the 7 p.m. Bullride Mania rodeo, tonight's activities also include more qualifying rounds in the fair's annual Horseshoe Pitching Contest.
The Fearless Flores Thrill Show continues today through Saturday, with several show times each day; you can walk through the exhibit buildings and view entries from your friends and neighbors; tour the livestock barns filled with cows, horses, pigs, rabbits, sheep and goats; play Bingo; enjoy a wide range of delicious fair food; purchase chances to win one of 70 prizes donated for this year's fair raffle; and make sure you stay until the end of the evening for the nightly 9:30 p.m. free prize drawing for bicycles.
A separate raffle Saturday night will see one lucky winner walk away with a quarter of beef and a chest freezer, donated to the Fair by D.N. Dunkle Farms. You can get those raffle tickets inside the Commercial Building. They're $5 each or three for $10.
Due to the popularity of the tractor pulls, Bearly Controllable Pulling has scheduled another Garden Tractor Pulling event for the final day of the Fair this Saturday. Pulling starts at noon at the Fairgrounds pulling track, weather permitting.
